PROVO, Utah — For years, Kevin Jensen carried a pistol everywhere he went, tucked in a shoulder holster beneath his clothes.

In hot weather the holster was almost unbearable. Pressed against his skin, the firearm was heavy and uncomfortable. Hiding the weapon made Jensen feel like a criminal.

Then one evening he stumbled across a site that urged gun owners to do something revolutionary: Carry your gun openly for the world to see as you go about your business.

In many states there's no law against that.

I don't carry a gun to advertise. I am not saying you are wrong to carry in the open, but maybe your primary reasons for doing so are a bit skewed...

I can see a whole new design arena opening up for color coordinated holsters. Really, is wearing guns really necessary at all? Maybe I'm just spoiled by the area I live in, but it would freak me out to see a lot of armed people walking around.

They hide them from you until they intend to use them. What is it about someone carrying a gun in the open which would freak you out?

Ladybug,

As long as there are evil people in this world there will be a need for someone to be able to stop them.

I carry concealed to protect myself, my family, and anyone else from those that would do them harm.

It is no different than my having smoke alarms in my home, even though I have never had a home burn in any neighborhood I've ever been in.

It is no different than my wearing a seatbelt, even though I don't plan on getting into a car crash and drive responsibly.

A question I have for you:

Would you defend yourself or your loved ones if they were being attacked?

Done it myself quite a bit in the past. Though, if you do decide to do it, prepare to be harassed by ignorant LEOs and the sheeple.

Monster Man,

As I said, maybe it's just that I live in a low crime area. But just thinking about a lot of people walking around visibly packing frightens me. It's like everyone is not only expecting, but looking for trouble. You have a concealed weapon, fine. I don't see it, I don't know about it, I don't worry about it. We don't live in the Old West anymore, and that's how I'd feel.
