I love my bladed ceiling fans, especially in the bedroom and kitchen.  Cool

Not to mention that they occasionally slice a mosquito.  Cheesy

We have a fan on in the bedroom at night.  I do notice the "buffeting," but it's not enough to make me spend $300 for a fan.  I'll wait for the cheap knockoffs...

I am thinking a Squirrel Cage Fan would do more for you.

I hadn't thought about it till you mentioned it, but that is pretty much what this is, a glorified squirrel cage fan.
Look at the pic real close, it has a type of turbine fan in a way.

Yep... You must have a fan to start the air moving.  From what I can see he is asking a very small fast fan to kick start the flow of the bigger air mas.  Put in a bigger fan in the bottom and bigger holes above and you would end up moving even more air.  But then it would cost more to run it.  So $$ wise I would go with the old squirrel cage fan and do a full room or two.  Not just one small area.  Wink

Which also explains why he didn't put streamers on the fan to show airflow, there probably isn't very much. Grin

Bladeless fan!  Grin

The blades have been moved to the bottom turbine unit.  Very clever though.  They could have made the top portion into about any shape and this would still work.  By making it circular you give a point of comparison to traditioinal fans with the blades directly in the final airflow stream.

I was expecting something along the lines of using a charged surface to cause the air to flow, though I would thing that would be a very expensive fan to operate.  Somthing like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAKkmR9eh0U&feature=related
An electrical charge forces air down the device propelling it upward.
