Polly Gone?!?!?!
Dec 5th, 2009, 4:42am

What?

Placido Polanco returns to the Phillies. Tigers best hitter. Their offense is lagging and they deal their best bat back to Philadelphia.

This is the most shocking news since the Lions dealt Erik Kramer or the Tigers dumped Jason Thompson.

WHATEVER!

If the stories are correct, they will be having fire sales.  Cabrera is too expensive and Edwin Jackson is on the market.  I think they see that payroll will have to be downsized for some time due to not only the overall economy but the local economy which may take even longer to come around.

Yeah, that's what I hear too, but I think it's bunk. Win and they will put butts in the seats. Dump your talent and ticket sales will plunder.

BUT!

The Tigers were winning last year and they drew good crowds.

I fear this may all be a knee-jerk reaction by me, but when they dump two great talents like Polanco and Granderson, and even Edwin Jackson who was a better-than-decent pitcher, it's frustrating. After the season ended like it did, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth that will last all winter. They had a HUGE lead in the division, put it in cruise control and let the Twins catch and pass them at the wire. Then they get rid of the best second baseman and centerfielder in the league.

I don't think this is an all out fire sale, otherwise they would be shopping Verlander. I think it's long term thinking. After listening to MLB Homeplate on XM this past week (while in sunny Florida, coming home was quite a shock) they mentioned that Austin Jackson has a lot of promise and could be an All Star CF. They picked him up with Phil Coke (possible closer), another bullpen pitcher whose name escapes me and a good young starter.

Ilitch is famous for this with his Red Wings, hording young talent and keeping the soil fresh on the farm. Maybe their thoughts are more long term than mine, but I was ready to buy my World Series tickets for next year before Polanco went to Philly and Granderson to the "Evil Empire."

I think it may be a step back for next year, then two or three steps forward for 2011. We'll see how the AAA kids perform.

Only 115 days 'til Opening Day!

Yeah, ain't that crazy? To a Canadian group I believe.

It was built in 1975 for 50 million. I guess that's not a wise investment for motor cross and tractor pulls. If my credit was better, I could have sold my house for a down payment and bought the place myself.
