what is the biggest sporting event you have ever attended?

Mine was this past Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix between TCU and Boise State.

Excellent topic, TigerDak!

For me, I would say the biggest event I personally attended was WCW's "Halloween Havoc" 1996. I had just turned 21, and my family sent me and Scott to Las Vegas! And as part of my birthday present, Scott got us tickets to the PPV. It was a the MGM Grand Arena. My very first PPV!

There were some great matches on that card, including:

Rey Misterio Jr. vs Dean Malenko for the WCW Cruiserweight title

Jeff Jarrett (w/Ric Flair) vs The Giant

Eddie Guerrero vs Diamond Dallas Page

Chris Benoit and Steve McMichael vs Faces of Fear (Barbarian & Meng)

Syxx vs Chris Jericho

Lex Luger vs Arn Anderson

The Outsiders (Kevin Nash & Scott Hall) vs Harlem Heat for the World Tag Team Title

The main event was Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs Randy "Macho Man" Savage for the World Title. That was pretty lame, but the fun part was at the end of the match, when Roddy Piper surprised everybody and made his WCW debut.

I will never forget that day! Smiley

My runner-ups.

I was there:

1. When the UH basketball team (led by AC Carter) upset No. 2-ranked Kansas Jayhawks in the championship game of the Rainbow Classic. (The Jayhawks were led by Paul Pierce!)

2. When the UH football team beat Boise State to win it's first outright WAC championship, and a berth in the Sugar Bowl! When the game ended, thousands of fans flooded the field in celebration.

3. When the 2000 Olympic "dream team" beat the college all-stars in a couple of exhibition games in Honolulu, in preparation for the Olympics. The 2000 team had Vince Carter, Alonzo Mourning, Kevin Garnett, Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, etc. We even saw the women's team (with Lisa Leslie, Chamique Holdsclaw, etc.) play against Brazil!

Biggest crowd:
I've  been to 3 Lion games at the Silverdome (80,000 people each game). One game each against three divisional rivals (Vikings, Packers and Buccaneers in the old NFC Central days).

Toughest ticket:
Redwing games have always been huge just because of the lack of ticket availibility. I've been to two, standing room only both times eventhough we bought our tickets months in advance.

Greatest experience:
Tiger Stadium in the 1984 season was unbelieveable. I attended two games that season. The Wave was new, Tiger fans were the first to use it at a pro venue. When folks in the upper deck would start stomping their feet, it was deafeningly exciting. One of those things I don't try to explain because it never comes across right to those who have never experienced it themselves.

Biggest deal:
The most significant sporting event I was ever at was at Fifth Third Ballpark, here in Grand Rapids to watch the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers' Class A affiliate) win their second Midwest League Championship.
