Is this a Christian?

Check out this link:

http://blog.christianitytoday.com/ctpolitics/2008/11/obamas_fascinat.html

It contains a 2004 interview with Barack Obama by Christianity Today magazine.

Read the interview in its entirety, and answer this question:

Based on what you read, is Obama really a Christian?

YES?

NO?

I know some people are afraid to answer this kind of question, so I'll start it off.

NO.

Judging from the interview he takes after his grandparents who became  Universalists.
They go to Church but don't like any real dogma or the concept of definite truth.

any particular flavor?  how's that for dumbest question ever.
didn't know they serve Christianity at Baskin Robbins.   Tongue

i think it's pretty interesting that he finds his identity and what seems to be his religion in association and upbringing.
a lot of people identify their religion like this, but nobody ever said religion was necessarily the same as following Jesus.

so i think it's a strange question to ask someone what religion they are and anticipate the answer being Christian.  well... actually, i think that is a fair answer.  but then i see a bit of a contrast between "Christian" and following Jesus as a general rule, both historically and on the whole in contemporary western society.

in a part of the interview he says (i think the interviewer) that talking about your faith as a public figure can be dangerous.

the way people are picking apart his answers is exactly why.
it's nasty, hypocritical and simply demonstrates why a person can't trust supposed Christians with anything personal regarding their own faith.

it's personal.  take it for what it is.  judge if you think it's appropriate... whatever.

there's no possible way a person can know if Obama will be saved or not.

check out some of the comments.  one person picks apart the fact that Obama says that he's praying, but also asking himself about his motivations.  the person commenting writes that Obama is getting the two confused.

ridiculous.  introspection and prayer can happen at the same time - examining yourself before God.

once again, picking apart what the man said on the spur of the moment to explain how he sees his faith.

i'm glad that my judgment is in the hands of a merciful God and not a bloodthirsty Christian that sounds like he comes more from a witch hunt or Inquisition of the Spanish variety than from the loving fellowship of Jesus Christ.

I'm personally not too obsessed with politician's spiritual life. Bush has made comments such
as Islam is a great religion of peace and that we all worship the same God,etc. It's the same
kind of nonsense Obama seems to believe. But Bush doesn't get torn apart by rightwingers for
this. I assume 95% of what comes out of politicians mouths as being B.S.

It's a simple YES or NO question, Jeff.

Roll Eyes

What is it with liberals and answering questions directly?

He makes a statement of commitment to Christ.  That's what I look for.  Commitment, relationship, trust.  But based on an interview I just skimmed, it would be impossible to say.  Is he 100% correct doctrinally?  Nobody is.
