Im italian...I learned long long ago from my grandfather then my father how to make pasta sauce...we call it ..make the gravy Smiley
For yrs when my kids were growing up..id make the gravy once a week, enough for two meals...sunday and wednesday...Later on I would make a big pot and freeze 1 qt jars enough for a lb of pasta...then I got a coupon for a free jar of Bertolli Pasta sauce...I never liked jarred pasta
sauces...anyway...I bought Bertolli Olive Oil and garlic sauce...and dangit ...ITS GOOD...closest thing to homemade that Ive ever found in a jar...
Now Pasta sauce taste is subjective and up to the individual...you guys may hate it..lol...

I've never bought jarred pasta sauce either, but, next time I'm in the grocery store I'll give it a try... Italian gravy, good Italian gravy, is a lot of work!

Thanks for the tip!

I'm not Italian, but pasta is one of my favorites. I use jarred sauces, but have found that combining two brands, like Ragu and Progresso, for instance, gives better results than any brand alone. I also add them to sauteed meat and onion. Yummy!

I'll certainly try Bertolli next time. Thanks for the tip!  Cool

I used to spend forever making pasta sauce untill one day I tried a jar of sauce and to my dismay.......it was a lot better than my home made.

I've tasted several sauces made by people who's Italian mother/grandmother taught them the real traditional way to make the sauce.  I found them all to be incredibly bland. Of course this criticism is coming from someone raised on New Mexican cooking.
