Front of the house we have a brick planter built up against the house...... noticed the caulking between the brick and the wall is gone in several places and am starting to see some water damage (paint is peeling/bubbling off)..... have to go in the crawl space to see how bad it might be.... on top of that several of the bricks are loose and whoever built it did a crappy job with the mortar. I'd like to just rip it out but my wife likes it.... so I'm going to take it down and rebuild it with new material. My question is about what I should use between the bricks and the foundation of the house? Vapor barrier and/or that water proof tar paint? Or maybe something else?
