LNF Diplomacy Showdown
Feb 15th, 2011 at 12:49am

Okay, something new for the game forum aimed at the political junkies.

It’s possible that LNF won’t be be interested in a war and diplomacy game. But with all the tough talk on here I’d like to see how the chips would fall if the people of LNF were forced to make tough decisions and engage in diplomatic maneuvering (and I wonder who would back stab who by the end).

Each player is a nation on the map. You move armies and fleets around the map, negotiate behind the scenes, help your allies out from time to time, and try to gain territory. The first nation to reach a certain number of territories wins. But you really can’t win unless you use diplomacy. To do so you have to establish alliances and talk with other players. It is a turn-based game and we would do one turn a day. So it’s a pretty easy going relaxed pace. It won’t get in the way of your constant stream of BS to one another. Smiley

Everyone submits their turns to me by Private Message and naturally I won’t be playing. Diplomacy between nations can occur privately via PM. But, at least once every two turns, each nation must post in the game thread a brief rundown of your official “public” diplomatic statements to each of the other players, although the honesty of your public diplomatic statements is up to you and your allies.

After all the moves are submitted, I enter it all into software which calculates the turn. Then I post a map that shows the moves and the final outcome of each turn.
If you’re interested in playing let me know in this thread. For the map variants I have picked out so far (see below) we need either 3,5,6,7, or 10 players. None of these are the standard (original) map described in the game rules, but the game is the same.

For more information on how to play the game:
  • DIPLOMACY BASICS (PDF): A quick 2 page how-to summary of the basic moves and gameplay.
  • Official Rules (PDF): The official rulebook for a more in-depth look at the game. It’s a 3MB file, I recommend you right-click and “save as” to simply download it straight to your computer if needed.

Here are some of the possible maps that might be used depending on how many players we have:

Ha...yes it will be fair. Sometime in the next week or two I'll muster up probably 7 players and we'll get started.

Yeah people have conventions and tournaments and things of that sort with Diplomacy. So I imagine there was once one in Youngstown, Ohio.

Action wise, it is a very simple game. You only have four pieces that you have to worry about at the start. That number does not grow substantially. You have very few things that you can actually do on any given turn.

All the complications involve holding alliances.
