annoying Christian ideas
Nov 10th, 2011 at 10:09pm

two of my pet peeves are when Christians say
a) the injustices and inhumanity of the Crusades and Inquisitions are in the past and we've evolved or progressed beyond that.  this is utter nonsense.  given the chance Christians would do the same and indeed do the same today.

b) look at Jesus, not at what i do.  i'm only human.  what a cop-out and excuse to be a miserable person.

rant over.

There is some legitimacy to this--look at me as I attempt to imperfectly emulate Christ, but ultimately what I strive for is determined by Christ.  Ultimately, look at Christ because my emulation is imperfect.

it's a lame excuse as people do what they want and say "i'm only human" ... which is also an excuse.
i know what you're saying, but it's also an excuse and license to sit back and accept it.

That's absurd. I don't know of any Christian who wants to take up arms and recreate the Crusades and Inquisition.

I'll agree with you here. We are sinners but when we do sin, we shouldn't fluff it off and say "we're only human." We should have humility and confess our sins before God and man.

And you base that upon what? I don't see churches piling up weapons or calling for mass conversion or die. Seems to me you're getting confused with the Muslims in the world.

You live in a world of sin, what were you expecting?  I know I am forgiven, but with that forgiveness comes a responsibility to ensure I stay the course.  EVERY man of God in scripture fell short of God's grace.  David sinned by not only having sex with another man's wife but having that man killed.  Yet once David was aware of his sin, he repented of this and dealt with God's punishment.  Yet he was a man after God's own heart.  If you are looking for perfection in Christians, you will not find it.  If you are looking for a humble people who get their strength through Christ, then we are waving at you.

But none of us have the mindset that would lead to another Inquistion as Jeff aludes to.

I've seen it expressed on LNF before, that, given the opportunity some would relish the eradication of all Muslims.

And I know the individuals you're talking about, but I don't recall them claiming any particular religious beliefs. Their remarks are politically motivated and not hinged on faith.

There will always be extremists. It's important to keep that in mind when looking at all religions.
