Are True Christians Supposed to
Jan 23rd, 2012 at 1:53am

defend the bible or are we supposed to keep quiet while another religion distorts it by claiming they are "Christians"?

I was taught that if it isn't of God it's of the devil...
If the bible strictly states that we arent to add or take away from it, yet the Mormon religion does both that must mean the religion is of the devil right?... How could it not be of the devil? Christians are told via the bible that in order to be saved, we must accept Jesus into our hearts and ask forgiveness of our sins.... there is only one way to get to Heaven and that is thru Christ that saves us, so if the Mormon religion preaches that you can enter heaven by good works, is that not just misleading people and essentially sending those people to hell.... is that not of the devil?

Am I completely off base?

Where does the Bible say to defend the Bible?

Does the Bible say this?

When the Bible talks about not adding or taking away, what is it talking about?

Where does the Bible say we "go to heaven"?  How is it we are "saved through Christ"?

I think there are some far more basic questions that could be answered before we all throw stones at Mormons.  Secondly, it would be interesting to see how a Mormon might answer the charge that they "rely on good works to get to heaven."

1 Peter 3:15
but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and irespect,

Quote:
Does the Bible say this?

I John 3:10
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

Quote:
When the Bible talks about not adding or taking away, what is it talking about?

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this Book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this Book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the Book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this Book" Revelation 22:18-19.

Where does the Bible say this?

Romans 10:9, 13. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. . . . For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

God has shown His love and says, "Repent and be baptised every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).

Quote:

1 Peter 1:4
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

Colossians 1:5
For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

1.Acts 15:11
But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

No you're not off base.  Mormonism is a false religion started by false prophets.  Wether it comes from the mind of the devil or the mind of a deceitful man, or both makes no difference to me.  Bottom line is it's an abomination.

That being said, I don't vote for someone because of how religious I perceive them to be.  How many Presidents or candidates are true believers?  Obama scoffs at bible believers, Bush said "Islam is a religion of peace."
Thomas Jefferson wrote his own version of the Bible in which all references to the miraculous and any religious dogma was deleted.
Was he any better than a Romney?

I know that God will allow whom ever he wants to become our President...what ever is in his plan will happen....
I simply despise the idea of a President that believes that his good works are his way into a higher level of heaven.... Would his Presidential decisions be based of how many crowns he will get or how many levels He'll get to?

PF&S pretty much answered as I would have....

My question to you is, since Mormons don't believe in hell, but instead believe that there are just different levels of heaven, they are obviously rejecting the teachings of the bible and spreading mis-truths ....meaning that people are going to believe that it isn't essential to accept Jesus.... They are going to believe that they are still going to heaven, just a lower level...Isn't the devils goal to keep people from being saved,...is this Mormon religion not helping him with that?

The reason for my hope is Christ, not the Bible.

Quote:
I John 3:10
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

Actually, Jesus says both "whoever is not for me is against me" and "whoever is not against me is for me."

Quote:
"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this Book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this Book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the Book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this Book" Revelation 22:18-19.

That's John.  Writing Revelation.  Not the Bible.

Quote:
Romans 10:9, 13. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. . . . For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

God has shown His love and says, "Repent and be baptised every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).

That says nothing about "asking Jesus into my heart."  Of course, the next question is, saved from what?  And possibly, saved for what?

Quote:
1 Peter 1:4
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

Colossians 1:5
For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

For us to experience in heaven?  That's a physical place?  At the end of Revelation, John describes heaven as coming to earth...

Quote:
Acts 15:11
But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Again, from what?

I appreciate that you are quoting directly from the Bible.

Do Mormons believe that good works earn your way to higher levels of heaven or crowns?  I know many Christians who believe that they will earn crowns through good works.
