I believe he is thinking wrong with the statement: " I don't believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute."  Roll Eyes

Does he not realize this separation also protects his religion?

My guess is that he does beleive in the protection aspect, but not the absolute removal of religion in regards to the State.  Just because he does not want the separation to be absolute, does not mean that he, therefore, wants no separation.  Maybe just less.

Yes, I guess it is human nature to wish to pick and choose the protections according to his personal preferences. That could still come back to bite many people in the ass.

How can anyone "remove religion" from the actions of the state? Elected representatives of faith will always act individually on their personal religious principles. It's when they try to group themselves into religious political power blocs in order to legislatively impose their mutually-held religious beliefs on nonbelievers (i.e. people of different faiths and those of no faith) that the trouble begins.

This is like the complaint "government has taken prayer out of schools." Nonsense. People pray in school every day. They're just not led in prayer anymore.

Can you show me where the clause "Separation of church and state" is mentioned in the Constitution?

It's in the same place where it says you can individually "open carry" firearms.

I am sure you already know it is not there or you would not have asked the question;therefore, I will comment on the:
First Amendment:
The first amendment to the Constitution prohibits the government from 'establishment' and is hotly debated and some insist that it means the government can not create a national religion. This reading is too narrow and could possibly nullify the clause. To have relevance, it must be read that the government can not favor, endorse, promote, or support ANY religions just as it can not hinder any. It must remain neutral.

The first amendment protects the free exercise of religion. It does not protect just the free exercise of Christianity nor does it suggest that Christianity and Christians should have any special privileges.
Had the authors thought that Christians were special they would have said so. JMHO

that is always my question
we can't have a state sanctioned church (Chuch of England) but we are all free to worship as we wish if you read the constitution
if you don't like the prayer being offered then say your own
or show up five mins late so you are not "forced" to be religious
and now we have a few asswipes here bringing in a bunch from out of state looking for money, yes money, they don't care about religion they just want the cash

The letter infers that the group will sue Huntsville in federal court if the policy is not changed.

It is sad that with all the problems facing America that this foundation mentioned above is concerned over a prayer.
America is going to hell in a hand-cart, a situation aided by the intentional miss-direction of peoples attention.

Personally, I am more concerned with the stupid actions taken by governmental bodies after the meetings start than some prayer done before-hand.

These type distractions from real issues does not leave the public with a proverbial wing or prayer.
