this is really a bunch of crap

The controversy over requiring voters to provide photo IDs has reached the world stage.
The United Nations Human Rights Council is investigating the issue of American election laws at its gathering on minority rights in Geneva, Switzerland. This, despite the fact that some members of the council have only in the past several years allowed women to vote, and one member, Saudi Arabia, still bars women from the voting booth completely.
Officials from the NAACP are presenting their case against U.S. voter ID laws, arguing to the international diplomats that the requirements disenfranchise voters and suppress the minority vote.

It's not the UN that pisses me off in this instant. It's seeing groups like the NAACP wanting the UN involved. What the hell is wrong with having an ID when you go vote. You sure need one to buy a bottle of booze or cigarettes. You KNOW everyone has one.

Even at 76, the cashier asks me for my id if I buy a bottle of wine. I can guarantee I don't look younger than 21! Voting is one of the precious rights/privelages we have. We should be able to make certain that only citizens of the U.S. use that right/privalege. Having to present a picture i.d. protects that. This isn't a racial deal, and it certainly isn't anything that should involve the U.N. It's a matter of proving citizenship.

The NAACP is just trying to validate its existence. IMO, taking this to the U.N. doesn't help them.

Whether or not there is racial intent does not matter (it is clear there is none) according to the Voting Rights Act. For certain states, when changes are made to voter qualifications, they need to be pre-cleared with the US justice department, and they just needs to believe that there will be a negative impact on voting that disproportionately effects certain racial groups to stop the implementation. The burden of proof then lies with the state to prove that, if fact, this disproportionate effect does not exist.

Texas and South Carolina (the ones that have recently attempted to institute voter ID requirements) are among the states that require this pre-clearance.

again it is too simple for some to understand
if you have to have an i.d. to buy booze or cash a government check then why not to vote?

Having a voter ID is not at all uncommon in countries. Matter of fact some countries NOT only require your picture on the voter ID, but also your finger print.

I wonder how many at the communist UN will admit their own countries have voter ID? Bet none will admit it, yet they will probably go along with the racist group called the NAALCP.

I've long held the belief that the UN needs to be ejected from our soil,....and maybe, just maybe we'll send a delegate to whereever they wind up, to see what nonsense they're talking about.

The UN is a worthless body that has NEVER accomplished anything without the United States Military. Might as well give them a small conference room in the basement of the Pentagon, that would be more efficient than the Billion dollar real-estate they currently occupy.
