Probably.  All while the intelligent ones realized that correlation does not equal causation.

So what you're saying is that we don't know if dumb emotional people are attracted to conservatism or if conservatism makes people become dumb and emotional.

Well, either way that's not good.

Also of note, it is the liberals on this forum that use emoticons with much greater regularity.

Not true.

That is not what I said.

I said correlation does not equal causation.  Meaning the fact that the two are correlated does not mean that either one caused the other.  The study also did not use the word dumb, and neither did I.

How many cases does then? Considering I'm the guy mostly known for using emoticons and I would represent one case. Who else does?

Well, logic is obviously not your forte because it has to be one or the other. Either people are less intelligent and more emotional BEFORE they become conservatives or they become less intelligent and more emotional AFTER having been convinced by conservative ideas. Maybe you should think more and emote less...

He's far from being the only one even if he's a particularly strong case.

Yes, according to the study there is a correlation.  That does not prove that either one caused the other.

There is nothing wrong with my logic.  Your initial argument was a logical fallacy.  This post does nothing to support it, and throws in another logical fallacy: Ad Hominem.

That doesn't disprove my point.

If you look at it from a managing complexity standpoint the results make sense. Conservatives are more likely to see the world as black and white. There are views held by conservatives such as the market always being right that have no simple liberal equivalents. In this sense people that have trouble managing conflicting information will be inclined to conservativism.

You have to realize that a study like this may not represent LNF. The participants would either be students or people randomly selected from the public. A more informed population may not exhibit the same characteristics.

People with liberal views tended to have increased grey matter in the anterior cingulated cortex, a region of the brain linked to decision-making, in particular when conflicting information is being presented. Previous research showed that electrical potentials recorded from this region during a task that involves responding to conflicting information were bigger in people who were more liberal or left wing than people who were more conservative.

Conservatives, meanwhile, found increased grey matter in the amygdala, an area of the brain associated with processing emotion. This difference is consistent with studies which show that people who consider themselves to be conservative respond to threatening situations with more aggression than do liberals and are more sensitive to threatening facial expressions.

Makes sense.

The gray matter around the liberal's anterior cingulated cortex does make more sense. Pardon the stereotyping, but as our conservative friends are wont to observe liberals inhabit a world of gray while conservatives see things much more in terms of black and white. If a person sees things primarily in black and white, then of what use is fretting over variables and consequences? One's emotional response therefore becomes the primary guide, the hand on the decision-making tiller. So the conservative ends up with neurons clustering around his emotional centers like the amygdala. Those living in worlds of gray are concerned with variables and consequences, and producing correct outcomes, so they think (and overthink) and worry, juggling variables, constructing scenarios, in an effort to foresee the ramifications of choices before they're made. Thus the liberal ends up with more gray matter around his cortical "thinking cap."

Is this why liberal programs are the ones bankrupting the country today, because they thought the consequences through?
