Those industries run today because of energy, WP. The
mining you speak of today would come to a halt, without
the energy to power the equipment used in that industry.
Why can't you see that?

Ya'all are talking chicken and egg stuff here.

Energy is available because of those industries, Glen.

Today those industries are dead without the fuel needed
to run the equipment to make them run, WP.

OK, take these industries out of the picture. Where do you get cheap sustainable energy from without them?

It's a cycle. Industry needs energy to run but energy needs industry to harness it, and create a useful product. Think about it. Can you name any energy sources that are totally independent from industry?

OK, take the energy out of the picture. How do you power
all of the equipment we are using to keep those industries running?

The key point is that the energy we use today would not be available if these industries didn't precede it. The energy to build these industries from the start came from the muscle of man and animal.

I already addressed this earlier.
I'm aware that early on other means were used to get
the job done. But those day are long gone. Today those
industries rely on modern equipment, Much of it directly
running off of fossil fuels. Without that basic element the
industries would come to a halt. The logging industry for
example, you have planting, harvesting and extensive
precessing. Not to mention all of the transportation that
takes place in between those various steps. All if it come
to a halt without the oil.

The topic is about the four basic industries that make civilization possible. Modern energy production is an offshoot of those four basic industries. That's all there is to it. You're arguing a point not in evidence.

And every one of them would come to a halt without energy.

The fuel is the key element that allows those industries
to keep running, omit that element and it comes to a halt.
That's all there is to it.

Pull the fuel out of all of the equipment used in those
industries, observe the results, then tell me how much
evidence I need.

Without the four industries that Duster listed, no standard of living would be possible.

Does this mean that industrial policy should focus on these four industries?

This seems to be Duster's implication.
