Darwin Critic, Dalai Lama Wins Templeton Prize

Next time someone tells you that only naïve Biblical literalism keeps anyone from fully accepting Darwin's idea, or that only Americans would be so foolish as to think an immaterial source of causality guides evolution or that material explanations fail to address the mystery of life's origin, you might want to point out the writings of the Dalai Lama.

Lots of good articles on faith, evolution, philosophy and science on the above website. Looks like we don't have to discuss evolution or science from a creationist point of view at all, especially when discussing the intelligent design of some natural system or organism.  Smiley

The Dalai Lama is right that evolution does not explain the origin of life.  Of course, that isn't what evolution tries to describe.  The Dalai Lama is complaining that atomic theory doesn't explain why things fall, or that the Germ Theory of Disease cannot account for the orbit of the Moon.

Altruism is becoming understood.  Mostly it's to preserve genes that are "close enough" to your own, such as a fellow tribesman.  Altruism across species hasn't been explained yet; it is also comparatively rare.

The Dalai Lama is right that the nature of consciousness hasn't been explained yet.

Unfortunately, his arguments are pretty standard in the West, where science is supposed to have all answers to everything like religion claims to.  "We don't know yet", instead of being a humble answer to difficult questions, is a way to stuff in a bunch of religious nonsense.  There is not one shred of evidence that karma exists, but since science hasn't answered every single question, in it goes!  Ridiculous.

All well and good but it's still is nice to know that much doubt and disbelief in evolutionary theories exists amongst people of non-Christian faiths and ideologies and that they too may be awarded a Templeton Prize in Religion and Science.  Cool

If reading Darwins theory carefully it is full of what probably happened, what could have happened and in fact asks more questions than it answers.

It certainly raises more questions than it answers. But then, it is more science fiction than a scientific theory capable of being scientifically observed, tested, demonstrated or ever repeated. I regard evolution as a modern-day myth and those who believe in it as religious fanatics.

You have demostrated your religious bias in your belief system for eveyong to see. You've failed to prove your view point any better then those who believe that Darwin might have been on to something. Those on both sides of the discussion are waiting for the proof to materialize.

Thank you. Your unbiased objectivity in the matter is sincerely appreciated.

True, but the onus is not on religion to prove anything. Rather is the burden of proof on those so-called "scientists" who believe in the Darwinist myth that humans originated from nonhuman beasts once upon a time in Africa.

They may as well be waiting for some god to materialize or some hairy African ape to "evolve" into a man.  Cheesy

Every good theory answers some questions and raises more.

Many people overlook the fact that Darwin never actually proved anything about his theory of evolution to be true. He always referred to it as a theory and in making his many long arguments in support of it, simply expressed his own beliefs and opinions about what he later summed up as, "a grand view of life."
