When it comes to most matters of governance I assume that differences in opinion are most normally founded in differences of priority and perception. As a humanist I naturally prioritize things differently that a staunch nationalist. It's different, and while I have a preference I wouldn't classify it as "better."

When it comes to matters of spirituality what you say is slightly more true, but I wouldn't use the word "dumb." Religion is dumb, but so is speeding, playing the slots, and unprotected sex with a stranger. Lots of intelligent people partake of very dumb activities all the time.
