County prosecutors in low-population counties like mine are absolutely terrified of spending money on cases they are likely to lose if any juror actually goes there to be impartial.

I know three local people who each got chosen for duty three times (and more), and in each case they had been on previous juries where a conviction was the result. (They volunteered that last part, and each implied they got picked because they could reliably vote the way the prosecutor wanted.)

Anecdotal? Sure. I also covered the courts system in that same county. I doubt I will ever be called, simply because I know about jury nullification and the expense I can cause to a county budget, or if I drag things out into a mistrial, doing my "12 Angry Men" number in the jury room.

Or, I can take the advice of a former UAW local union president (and 35+-year friend of mine) who actually verbalized what these three had told me. "I went in and asked them, 'Who do you want me to convict?' I was out of there on the spot."

I know about jury nullification too, but I would never be involved in that unless I was convinced of an overwhelming disconnect between law and justice.  Of more usual concern would be the standard of proof: guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, which is a high standard for conviction.

Why shouldn't one brag about escaping just another failed, irrational system of government?  Most jurors don't know what they're doing.  Instead of robotically parroting that it is their "duty", concerned citizens should work to reform the system.

I'm not convinced the system needs to be changed.  If you think so, what are you doing or what have you done to "fix" the system?  It seems to me that you're just thumbing your nose at it, bragging about that, and then complaining that it's the system that we have.  You seem to be a complainer but not a doer.  Boring and defnitely not helpful.

Serving on a jury is one of the best ways to screw with that system.

Sorry, but it's not my job to fix all the world's problems.  I do enough for society by attempting to repair the ignorance of obamabots and fighting libfascism online.

What the heck, did I hit a nerve with you?  There's no way you can nominate me to serve on a jury.  What a pompous thing to say.  It's not a contest in high school.

If you're not concerned, why the heck did you even bother to post?

IMO, you're not successfully fighting anything or anyone on this board.  Actually, none of us are.  This is a board where we all are pretty well entrenched in our beliefs and we're just expressing them.  I do it so I don't pixx off friends I have where I live.  I also come here because there are people who don't agree with me, and I like to hear what they have to say.  As far as changing anyone's mind, though; I don't think so, and that applies to all of us, not just you..

Of course I have as a matter of fact I had to go earlier this month.

WOW! so you really don't have a job and you are happy to go sit and smell for 30 bucks a day while (if you had a job is being done by other people?)
you know why i have never had to serve?
i know two federal judges, three federal prosicutors and almost every lawyer in the county from doing WORK for them
they know where i stand and they really don't want any smart people in their courts on juries
you may want to sell some of that rubbing shit to a judge and you want ever be called again

Because I wanted to brag about how I beat the system.  Should I include idiot footnotes in threads just for you?  Smiley

It's to change the mind of the LURKERS.  OF COURSE nobody will change the mind of the paid and/or organized obamabot shills.
