Once again you are not focusing.  Stagnant wage growth and this wealth "gap" does not mean that taxes do not put downward pressure on economic growth.   To be more clear, when I say that that taxes put downward pressure that doesn't mean there aren't other factors at play that will put upward pressure on growth offsetting the negative effects of taxes.  Nearly everyone acknowledges that taxes negatively effect economic growth.

Many policymakers and pundits assume that raising federal income taxes on high-income households would have serious adverse consequences for the economy.  Yet this belief, which has been subject to extensive research and analysis, does not fare well under scrutiny.  As three leading tax economists recently concluded in a comprehensive review of the empirical evidence, “there is no compelling evidence to date of real responses of upper income taxpayers to changes in tax rates.”[1]   The literature suggests that if the alternative to raising taxes is larger deficits, then modest tax increases on high-income households would likely be more beneficial for the economy over the long run.

The debate over the economic effects of higher taxes on people with high incomes has focused on a number of issues — how increasing taxes at the top would affect taxable income and revenue as well as the effects on work and labor supply, saving and investment, small businesses, entrepreneurship, and, ultimately, economic growth and jobs.  Here is a summary of what the evidence shows.

Okay, they only taxed the rich or they had a progressive tax.  I don't believe we've ever had a "fair" tax, where everyone gets taxed the same rate, regardless of income.  As long as we have income tax, that's the way to go, imo.  That way, everyone has an interest in spending and taxes.  Right now, the famous or infamous 47% pay no income tax and don't give a hoot what percentage taxpayers are taxed.  Not a good situation.

Awesome Dr. Adrian Rogers quotes~

~"You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it"

~"You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity."

~"What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving."

~"The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else."

~"When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation."

Is it not strange that people like you never apply the same ideas to the ones who actually do the work. If a person goes out, and labors 12 hours a day, six days a week, would he not feel oppressed understanding that the one who employs him is receiving all of the benefits of his labor simply because some feel that if one risks capital they should be entitled to all of the rewards?

I doubt if you will be able to comprehend this, however, since Reagan began lowering taxes on the wealthy, and since we have entered a globalist system, wages for the average worker have stagnated, or actually declined, yet salaries for the CEO's have increased 600%. The wealth of the average worker has declined by 7 trillion dollars since the recession began, yet the wealth of the top 20% has increased by 11 trillion dollars.

So, why should one work knowing that only a small percentage of the population will profit from that labor?

Is that person laboring doing so by force and without compensation?  Or has he, by choice, sold his labor to the employer for an agreed upon/contracted wage? If it is the latter, the employer is not receiving all of the benefits of his labor.

They had a flat tax in 1862. It was repealed in 1863.

One should start their own business if they have such a problem with making others rich.

This is why I call socialists, especially the corporatist kind, Jennie. People like you actually believe that the only ones that deserve to earn a living with their labor are the elitist, and thjat Adam Smith, and Thomas Jefferson, were closet "marxists" for thinking otherwise. In your pitiful mind even Christ was a marxist for teaching that he who had much, much was demanded of.

Where are all of these workers that are, apparently, working for nothing?  Why are they agreeing to that?
