A Saudi cleric has appeared in a recent video rejecting the fact that the Earth revolves around the Sun and claiming the opposite holds true, prompting a wave of social media remarks.

Answering a student question on whether the Earth is stationary or moving, Sheikh Bandar al-Khaibari replied: "stationary and does not move."

Who cares? Does it hurt anybody that he believes this?

Why would this be news? Or of interest to anybody?

Not so surprising to me. Fools can be found anywhere. Look at the number of people in this country who deny evolution.

You're misinterpreting the passage.
The teaching is that the earth (the ground or "land" - not the planet) cannot BE moved - not that the earth "can never move." Example: a loaded semi is hurtling downhill along the interstate at 70 mph. You and I are standing at the side of the road. I say to you: "I bet you can't make that semi move." Of course, you could - by swiftly hurling yourself beneath its wheels - but otherwise you probably would not be able to alter its course one iota. The passages in the chapter are teaching humans are not able by their own strength to cause the ground to move (as in an earthquake). It does not teach that the planet does not move, only that it cannot BE moved by human strength.

I dunno,
Are you suggesting this is a belief held by a mass group?

Job 9:7 ESV / 6

Who commands the sun, and it does not rise; who seals up the stars

"Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure (and) which insures to the good eternal happiness, are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments."

Not really that much different, just maybe a little further out on the fringes, than those who believe the earth is only 6,000 years old.  And you'd be surprised how many intelligent people believe that.  I know I was.

As another poster says, "Who cares?"  Not I.
