Quote:
How could I know if some story about a happening is accurate?

Raises a good point.

I'm currently reading Empire's Workshop, which has some good information (though overall the book has an obvious slant and agenda), and it discusses how the press generally took the government's word for what was going on in El Salvador and Nicaragua during the 1970's and 1980's, rather than doing independent reporting and developing their own sources of information.

Quote:
But it's not a matter of two extremes and a person can always attempt to get information from a diverse set of sources and use their best judgment to synthesize them into a "most accurate" assessment of the situation.

One aspect that is often ignored in these debates is that consumers often seek out sources that confirm their biases, so they have no desire to validate or confirm whether or not something is true.

This goes for you also and oh so appropriate for you!

Prove what you proclaim, sorry we can't take your word for it.

Where are the facts you proclaim?

What "independent studies" are you talking about?

No links or viable proof make you a " bald face B S artist."

First, I didn't say anything about independent studies.

Second, I cited the source about media reports on Central America. If you want to know more, you can read the book yourself.

Third, if you want to read about confirmation bias, you can read here and here (I won't be holding my breath).

No one is suggesting that O'Reilly embellishes stories.  Fact is, he's a bald face B S artist.  BTW, independent studies have proved that watching Focks News makes you stupid.  They lie to you, you idiots !  It's a 24 /7 propaganda channel.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Dear OhNoALib, .. I feel your rage and your hate as it grows regarding the topic of Fox News.   Grin

You say above that O'Reilly is a ''bald face B S artist''! -- how so?

Yes .. I feel your pain,  Grin by in the manner that you try to demean and mock Fox News by calling them, ''Focks'' News.

Did you know that if the old alphabet news networks over the decades had at least tried to keep some type of independent news, honesty, integrity, and engaged in not bowing to modern progressive liberalism and did not behave as clapping seals for the democrat party for so many decades, they likely would have kept their nightly television news media monopoly, and it is very likely there would have been no Fox News!

But, but, ..no,  Cry along came Fox News to fill that void. How dare Fox News spoil the damn progressive liberal monopoly by actually showcasing both sides of an argument, both sides of politics, or both sides of a news story?  Wink

Really, .. you shouldn't feel too badly about it. I mean, your friendly progressive liberals still have most of the control over the educational sectors and the NEA pumping out political correctness, trying to revise history and promoting idiotic and false afro-centrist teachings and helping young impressionable gullible white students feel ashamed of themselves for all of the so called, 'wrongs' committed by their forefathers.

Believe it, the ultra progressive liberals in the educational and news sectors did their jobs well, very well. Have you not seen the ratio of violent black on white crime. -- how could you, as it is not reported about on the nightly liberal news networks.

But, yet you'll hear about any white person, or white police officer that dares to defend themselves and is forced to use deadly force to stop an attack. Of course, the corrupt white liberal media would prefer the police officer to be seen as a racist just looking to deprive a minority of their 'civil rights', and that is the subtle little message the lying liberal media usually puts out, and you know it, too.

On and on the indoctrination goes even further, in the college/university atmosphere with the proud admitted Marxist professors, or perhaps the pro-communist whackos with tenure who use more subtle measures telling the students all about the joys of big government and how socialism isn't bad at all, and how social uniformity is so good for everybody, and of course the continuation of how evil and racist America's founding fathers were and how capitalism doesn't really work along with how many minorities are constantly being victimized by America's so called, 'built-in' racist system.

Oh .. and we mustn't forget about how wonderful homosexual and lesbian diversity is by showcasing it's great merits that have transcended itself all over America.-- ah, the poor little victims of so called, bigotry, hate, and intolerance are now seen as heroes for boldly coming out of the closet and out of the shadows giving people more choices now.  Grin

In addition, no wonder why this leftist administration despises Fox News and desires to take control over the internet, for they must control and continue their political and ideological indoctrination and informational subjugation over the masses.

All above has been observed in one way or another in recent decades flooding the old alphabet network news media, and I will tell you, most NORMAL people in America are sick of that shit, .. and that is exactly why Fox News generally wins hands down in the news ratings.

I must tell you that modern progressive liberalism is being rejected, .. although, that irrational/emotional disease still runs rampant in many areas in America, but, people see it for what it really is, .. mostly a tool used for purely political purposes and for control, based on a hackneyed and perverted belief system by people thinking themselves moral and with superior intellect. -- but, the sad reality is, nothing could be further from the truth!  Wink

Even I prefer listening to conservative talk radio, I want to hear what the opposition is crying about.  I'd probably watch FOX if I watched TV anyway but I particularly enjoy watching Bill O'Reilley clips of his various meltdowns and tantrums especially when he has teleprompter malfunctions.  It's great infotainment.

Which is why so many people watch him.

A good deal of truth in what you say but the Fox News business model has them seeking out the gullible and purposefully filling them with misinformation.

We suffer as a nation for their profit but those that truly buy into their lies are to be pitied as one would others with disabilities..

OK Fiddler,

Lets say you are a family man, you work all day, come home to the wife and kids and dont have a lot of time to go online. But you want to keep up with the news, so you turn on the TV to watch the news.

So who would you watch to get good unbiased news?

And you base this on what?  Your liberal bias and propaganda spoon fed to you through other news channels and publications?  What "independent studies" and "independent" from what, have shown that watching "Focks News" (not a bit clever or even a good try) makes you stupid?  Your large dosage of liberal junk has destroyed your originality and/or cleverness ability.
