Yes I was thinking you implied his more controlled society was more civilized, I might have missed the sarcasm.

I did not intend any sarcasm, and I was not implying that more and more control created more and better "civilization."  But enough of that.

What I am wondering is this:  I just read that about half of likely republican voters in New Hampshire favor legal recognition of gay marriage.  So how long do you think it will be before "political reality" comes into conflict with the "core values" of the "marriage is a sacred relationship between one man and one woman (at a time, anyway)" group and the "core values" recede into the history books?

I am not at all surprised that many republican voters either favor or do not care about legal recognition for gay marriage.

The core issue though is forced association.  Tolerance is not the same as acceptance and should never be confused.  Everyone tolerates things they don't agree with or believe in or just can't stand.  However forcing association is no different that forcing acceptance.  It is one thing for me to say that I just don't care if two gay people get married, it is quite another for someone to tell me that I have to provide network infrastructure to their wedding or Christmas party.

I am sure that no one would be standing in line to force a gay cupcake maker to cater to my son's wedding and I am ok with that.  If the cupcake maker believes more in his values than the money that I was going to pay him, then good for him.

The blatant hypocrisy of the enlightened ones is the real problem.  It is ok to believe in something as long as you believe what they want you to.

The funny/sad thing is that the enlightened ones are now just as guilty as the ones they call intolerant of being intolerant.  They believe in free speech as long as you are saying the things they want to hear.  They believe in freedom of association as long as you associate with who they want you to.  They even believe in the freedom of religion as long as you are freely battering Christianity.

The truth of the matter is actually very simple.  These people, the enlightened ones, are by a large incapable of leading a moral life and they want to eradicate any pillar of morality they can because it makes their life easier to live.  They can't follow a compass and like many they find it easier to take the compass away from others.  They prefer to change people and bring them down to an easier to attain simple common denominator rather than strive to live an above average life themselves.

This permeates modern society like a leech.  The end game is a life with no winners or losers so they don't have to worry about trying to win.  It's all about lowering standards.

I have no idea.  I would prefer that people simply moved away from the government providing it's seal of approval on private relationships.

I am not sure what you mean by that.  Do you mean to imply that you wish government did not grant partners of legally recognized marriages certain rights by virtue of that marriage?  I do not wish to infer where you did not imply.

I don't consider that the same as a "seal of approval" is why I am seeking clarification.

I mean that I wish the government would not recognize relationships.  Legally recognized marriages is nothing more than the government giving it's stamp of approval on a relationship and bestowing upon these blessed relationships privileges and tax breaks that others do not receive.
