How newspapers covered Abraham Lincolnís assassination 150 years ago

As for it's impact, it probably (assuming that had Lincoln survived he would have pursued a different course) lead to harsher treatment of the South under the Radical Republican Congress.

Any truth that doesn't conform to Conservative Pravda is a 'rewrite'.

Well, a good thing still in effect today is the 13th amendment was signed by Lincoln. You all have to realize the civil war was not all about slavery. So that 13th amendment was something good that came from the war. And it seems that some people forgot it was a republican deal.
What effects did it have? All Americans are free people. There are no slaves here. In that 150 years, they have become, doctors, lawyers, and of course, politicians.

And it [the 13th Amendment] seems that some people forgot it was a republican deal.

Thought about letting this slide, but I really can't.

With regard to the first sentence, slavery pervaded everything about the Civil War from states' rights to the economic issues of tariffs, etc.

With regard to the 2nd sentence, I think it's a stretch to say that ending slavery was a Republican ideal; an abolitionist ideal would be more accurate. Many Republicans were content to allow for slavery's continued existence in the South. They were primarily opposed to its expansion. The 13th Amendment was a political act brought about through the war.

I donít think so. Slavery was never mentioned until the war was almost over. The war was about tariffs. Taxes, and politics.

The secession resolutions mentioned slavery. Congress and the military favored a policy of freeing slaves during the war from the beginning.

Prior to this there was Bloody Kansas, and disputes over the expansion of slavery into the territories.

Quote:
The war was about tariffs. Taxes, and politics.

And all this was pervaded by the issue of slavery, because the U.S. economy (the entire economy, not just the South) was dependent upon it.
