from your second link:

"Some employees believe that the stores were closed because of worker protests for higher pay."

What do you think of this idea?

Do you think these "some employees" are correct?

And how does that work, exactly? Does WM shut down the store to spite the protesting employees? Even if the store is profitable?

You say Walmart wouldn't shut down stores just to spite some local labor complaints, if the stores were profitable.  But I say it also wouldn't shut down FIVE stores for unspecified "plumbing problems" that apparently will take 6 months to resolve.

Clearly we're not getting the whole story...

Perhaps.  I know that textile mills in the south closed for extended periods to starve out employees that were attempting to form unions.  That is when they didn't just out and out kill'um..

You're right. We're not getting the whole story. It is also curious that the employees are getting 2 months of pay. If the stores were shut down in retaliation for demands of higher wages, it seems unlikely Walmart would provide them that extra pay.

I never said that. I was actually trying to find your purpose for posting the quote.

It's possible, though I do find it unlikely.

This is the only likely thing mentioned so far.

It is possible. Do you think it's likely?

And if it is actually the reason, and the stores were profitable, do you think WM should be prevented from shutting down a store by state decree?
