when you look at the history of us fed spending, during peaks, there was always an association with some massive investment in infrastructure that one could point to - freeway system, wwii, technology...

we are spending at rates never before seen, going deeper and deeper into debt...and no one can really point to what we have gained, that's an investment...

there is a difference between going into debt because you just bought an asset that provide future cash flows and a good return....vs. going into debt because you are drinking too much and buying new furniture....

none of those shovel ready projects used as a basis and rational for more spending seemed to have come to fruition...all we have is more people on food stamps, more illegals and more problems in the ME

And higher health insurance i think its called Obamaomics?

The way to get things back on track

One part is to have top notch total secure quality population control.

Another is PUT people to work ! Keep them busy !

Help them create business
Give people breaks in taxes

It amazes me how people in the worst economy like now
STILL FIND A WAY TO DIG DEEP IN THERE POCKETS FOR MONEY TO SPEND ON SPORTS TEAM PARAPHERNALIA AND TICKETS AND LOTTERY TICKETS and clothes and shoes or guns and ammo and fast food

BUT THERE SURE NOT GOING TO SPEND IT by overpaying on a retail product before researching on internet and shopping for the absolutest cheapest bargain .

And they will not pay the extra big bucks for made in America products when they can by foreign product of the same cheaper or nobody makes the product no more in America

Not that facts matter to you but .. .. .

Baby Boomers And The Labor Force

At 39.8%, the labor force participation rate for those 55 years of age and over is the lowest it's been since April 2009 (chart 1).

Millions of "baby boomers" a generation typically defined as those born during the post-war baby boom that took place between 1946 and 1964 have retired from the workforce over the past six years.

This is putting massive downward pressure on the total labor force participation rate, which currently stands at 63.0% (chart 2).

So true and I am now a part of the non-participation rate since I have recently retired.

Will the Fed raise interest rates again next month?

Or hold at what is still a historically low rate?

To the surprise of nobody, they decided to hold off on their previous forecasted 4x rate hikes this year.

Does this tell us anything about their beliefs about the state of the economy?

Starting to look like another rate hike is completely out of the picture, given labor force shrinkage and a weaker than expected job market.

So the Fed Funds rate will remain in this extraordinarily low range, unprecedented in our history.

Because the state recognized the last time it tried to behave (relatively) responsible. See what happens (~2006 timeframe) when it raises rates in this Brave New World?

Disaster.

But low rates can't forestall the catastrophe forever. The inevitable price correction on this debt / stock market / housing / student loan / 8-year subprime auto loans / everything bubble will eventually rear its head.

To paraphrase the Great Reverend Wright, America's chickens will come home to roost.
