I think scripture is very clear.  I'm not sure why it is touchy except to those fleeing the word of God.

"Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure (and) which insures to the good eternal happiness, are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments."

Ignatius? Clement?

Ignatius is second century, though he grew up , matured and developed his views in the first. Clement was probably at the end of the first century, but he was in same.

Okay...?

My point was that even in the first and second centuries, universalism was being wrestled with. The majority of theologians rejected it. Only a few supported it. But even some that rejected universalism expressed a hope that it might be true. That's all I'm saying. It's not a new topic.

It has been debated for centuries...almost from the beginning.

Oh, I have no doubt that you're right about that. People will debate everything and anything.

To me, it's pretty clear that hell exists. Eternal damnation exists. And I'm fine with it. It's not like I'm going to worry or fret about it.

This is what turned me off from Dr. Ben Carson... he calls himself a Christian, but I don't see how any true Christian can pick and choose what they want to believe in the Bible.
You either believe the whole Bible or you believe none. Seems simple to me.

That's because he is a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (which many classify as a cult).   Annihilationism is one of their main doctrines.

Is this a case of misinterpretation or do they have a separate book of teachings?

Yes they have many books of teachings.  The writings of Ellen G. White (their founder and prophetess).  She wrote many "inspired" books through which most SDA interpret the scriptures.
