Let me chime on this Obamacare part of it.  Your's truly officially went on the dole last year.  That is, my gubment pension started rolling in.  Thank you.  One of the perks is I picked up Tricare again at no cost to myself.  Tricare qualifies as real full family healthcare so if you have Tricare, you do NOT get penalized for not having the medical coverage that Obamacare requires.  Ask me how know.  Now why a retired Vet would bad mouth Obamacare escapes me.

Greg

Tricare is good stuff, and if you have it, you must be retired military.  I salute you for your service.  I only served 1 year, 9 months, 17 days, 12 hours, 15 minutes, and 53 seconds active duty, with 4 years less that active reserve, and 2 years inactive reserve myself, not that I didn't enjoy every second of it.

But the answer to your question is it's ignorance, pure and simple.

Nope.  A psychiatrist I know says, frequently, "We're all f'ed up and fallible, just to varying degrees."

So?

And in 2020, let America show Trump the true definition of "unpresidented."

AND... Even if you are NOT a retired Vet, just a Vet, VA care also qualifies as valid healthcare and avoids the Obamacare penalty.  Ask me how I know.

leave out the military, the retired military, medicare recipients, and government employees and single payer is overwhelmingly supported

I have spent the past 20 years (until the aca) trapped in florida because a doctor noted that I might have asthma 20 years ago

or I could have moved and run the risk to my family of not having health insurance

almost seems unAmerican

I missed a few things I wanted to do, but overall you are right about living here, it's just the "can't" leave part that really sucked

after all, I could have been stuck in WV

We americans are funny like that.  Sir Winston Churchill, himself half American by birth, said it best:  "You can always count on Americans to do the right thing once they have exhausted all other options."

Still not buying the assertion, but fair to middling try.  Not all taxes are based on ability to pay, you know.  But even if they were, national defense is a necessary function of ANY form of government.  It cannot in any way be characterized as "socialist."

My argument was based on the government control of the means of production. They have more control of the military sector than any part of the economy. If you look at the arguments that conservative against make against other forms of economic intervention in the economy (i.e. "socialism"), most would also apply to the military.

I agree that the military is a necessary function of the government; however, this does not change the nature of the way military protection is funded and provided. Military service is funded by the government. The government controls all the major production decisions that are made. The government provides the service to every person using tax revenue as a source of revenue.

Replacing "military service" with "health care" gives: Health care is funded by the government. The government controls all the major production decisions that are made. The government provides the service to every person using tax revenue as a source of revenue. That sounds like a socialist institution to me.

The tax argument was after the fact and is not really important to the argument I am making.
