Sorry ! I do not remember the source for this.

It was from some kind of commentary on First Corinthians.

"And do we dare counsel God? We most certainly do! And we do so whenever we pray, whether formally and intentionally or unintentionally and informally. But to what end?"

I frequently see things that get my attention, save them, and forget them. This one sticks in my mind. The Lord's Prayer says God's will should be done here and in Heaven. So, the point of the quote is that, when we pray for something, we are, in essence, counseling with God. Any  comments ?

"For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counseller?"

I think it's a ridiculous statement.  We do plead with God and ask for good things, for ourselves and for others.  But that's a different issue.

So, if I understand you, when we are praying for specific issues, we are not counseling with God > We are not telling Him we know better what is good for us ?

First off all the language used in the quote is not "counseling with God" but "daring to counsel God."
There is a big difference between asking our Heavenly Father for good things/gifts/ blessings for ourselves and others and counseling Him.  The rhetorical question in the bible passage ""For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counseller?" has only one answer.....NO ONE !   Wink

It seems to me to be a misuse of the word.  I am thinking that what was meant to be said was "Dare we counsel with God".  In that sense yes we do.

Whenever we seek counsel (verb) we are in fact holding consel (noun).  Prayer is an obvious form of seeking counsel.
