why Flynn-gate won't just go away

1. Obama leveled sanctions against Russia.  Why?  Because our intel had determined that Russia had worked to interfere with US elections.

2. These sanctions involved some fairly typical diplomatic actions, like expelling diplomatic staff, shutting down a compound used by Russian staff in the US, etc.

3. Sanctions like this are typically met tit-for-tat.  The Russians were expected to respond in kind.  After a couple of days, they said they would not do so.

4. US intel services saw that as a red flag.  They began analyzing intel data to see if they could find the reason.  That is when they found the calls Flynn made to the Russian ambassador to the US.  Flynn was not in office yet, nor was Trump.

5. It is entirely appropriate and acceptable for US intel services to monitor communications of Russian diplomats.  There is no protection for such communications, nothing illegal about such monitoring, it's not even out of the ordinary.

6. The contents of the calls were to undermine the US sanctions and tell the Russians not to respond.

7. The US intel services investigated further, and found an ongoing series of contacts between Flynn and the Russian ambassador, going back to well before the US elections.  Flynn was a senior advisor to the Trump campaign at the time.

8. Now, new reports are emerging that US intel services have corroborated part of the infamous "dossier" on Trump (pee-pee gate).  They corroborated the part that involved the Trump campaign actively working with the Russians to impact US elections.  It was in that dossier, and US intel has agreed.

* * *

So, if you are a senior US intel service leader, what would you do with this information?  Who would you bring it to?  If you knew the Trump campaign had worked with a foreign power to undermine US elections, and now Trump was in the white house, would you just bring a report to Trump himself and ask if he wanted to do anything about it?

Would you stand by, letting Flynn, Trump, and whoever else continue unhindered, after an incredibly close election, to make major changes to US policy?  Threaten to pull out of NATO?  In full knowledge that Putin had assembled "kompromat" on Trump in order to influence him?

Or would you leak it, to put a check on this extraordinary chain of events?

My initial reaction is to slow leak that shit. That's not the stand-up thing to do but I'll admit it'd be my first consideration.

I have been complaining about this for years. Every little thing gets "gate" attached to it.

But now the issue is the over use of the word "gate". Does this mean we now have "Gategate"?
