America was at its greatest during Reagan's administration. Since then, conservatism has been on a decline as the country suffered during the rise of the Clintons and Obamas. Conservatism has always been the building block of American society;its decline marks a step away from traditional American values towards socialism - a future which I would personally prefer to avoid.

Your country was founded by a revolutionary act.

Apart from France, your country was the most progressive and radical country on Earth during the time it rose to greatness.

Under Communism, it's the exact opposite.

The best is yet to come!  I hate to even think that the U.S. can't or won't continue to grow, inventing and producing new products, better ways of accomplishing things, improvements in educational opportunities for all of our kids, not settling for the status quo in all things, etc.

Yes, I suppose there were a few Crepes in Rome when in the year 394 , there were more Barbarians fighting on behalf of Rome than actual Roman soldiers

Go....... Rome!!!!

Good job with the Crepes among us!

I have no idea what you're referring to or what Rome has to do with the topic or with what I had to say.  I have no ties to Rome.  I have no idea what the "Crepes among us" has to do with the price of eggs.

I sincerely do hope that America's Golden Age is in our future.  We are a fortunate citizenry living in our nation, but there is always room for improvement, no matter where you are or whom you are.  When you just want to rest on your laurels, you begin the downward slide.

So, you believe in that up until America succeeded in securing independence from Britain, that was America's golden age...while it was striving  to overthrow its rulers of colonialism? Then, you would have sided with those loyal to the Crown? Preferring to be governed by others. Interesting.

Oh please.  I'm a hell raiser, through and through, I'd have brought cookies to the declaration.

My more honest answer would be 50's and 60's probably.  The best jazz came out of that period.

I'd say between the end of WWII and the start of Vietnam.  The economy was booming, a generation was getting their first crack at real education through the GI Bill.  A generation of women were allowed to enter the workforce.  There was broad economic plurality and a sense of shared prosperity.

It wasn't all good.  There was Mcarthyism, Korea, minorities were still widely oppressed, the environment was not being protected at the level it is today.  And in many ways we are now doing much better than they were doing back then.  (Largely thanks to the internet and modern science.)

But in terms of socio-economic and cultural positivity, that was a good era.

But what came first my Limey friend?

Conservatism did. After all, the patriot colonist simply wanted the same rights as Englishmen

Well that can happen when you first win independence and can choose any system of Government you want. Wink Roll Eyes
