His idea of art is a lot different than todays. An upside down crucifix in a jar of piss is not art in my book. Maybe you and fiddlers.

Some art is meant to be challenging and that piece certainly is, you don't even allow it to qualify as art.  Fine.  I'm sure the artist is cool with that too knowing his piece is occupying enough of your brain cells to hate it.  I had totally forgotten about it and the "scandal."  It doesn't occupy my thoughts because it's rather distasteful where as you and Harry seem absolutely preoccupied with piss art.

That crap and piss was likely intended to ruffle your feathers and it has.

The Statue of Liberty was a gift from France.  Mt. Rushmore while funded with a Federal grant still generates tourism/income. What the hell does the Mona Lisa has to do with anything. Undecided

All of it is effectively government sponsored art.

The Mona Lisa was commissioned by Florentine silk merchant Francesco del Giocondo, not the "government".

Purchased by King something something of France and it now belongs to the French people residing in their most famous French museum the Louvre.  Gubment art.   Wink

The king didn't commission it - it came into existence because of a merchant.  Blink twice if you get it yet.   Grin

And what does that matter who commissioned it?  It was such a great piece of art that the king made it a national treasure using government money.  The Louvre itself is another example of government sponsored art. That's not hard to understand.

The point is that advanced civilizations cherish the arts and humanities and use the national treasury in support.  Just like it's important for the king to use the treasury to raise an army for protection, he uses some of the treasury to protect it's culture and arts.

ISIS is the antithesis of civilization in that regard but then so are groups like the GOP.
