wait another minute you do realize that under ocare, according to the CDC, their are currently over 28 million uninsured Americans.

So it went from 47 million to 27 million. Is that a improvement? It's a yes or no question.

How many of them are illegal aliens? Wink Go ahead and take off about 5.4 million from your number Wink
That number is also a conservative number

Quote:
Under federal law, undocumented immigrants aren’t eligible for ACA plans. Kaiser estimates that they account for 20 percent of the uninsured, or about 5.4 million people. A big chunk of them are in states like California, Florida, and New Jersey.

Even with people with pre-existing conditions? Shocked

I don't know what you're asking.  Seriously.

If you're asking if people with pre-existing diseases should be included in healthcare insurance programs, of course they should.   What's the point of insuring only those who are 100% healthy?  That would be one heck of a scam by the govt.

Take car insurance

Do insurers allow you to file a claim with a previous wrecked car before you even apply for insurance? Wink Huh Roll Eyes

How does insurance even work?

It would be the same if they had Medicaid (which is where they would end up in that case).

That doesn't mean the taxpayer is responsible.  The healthcare provider is.

I don't know of any hospitals that are going out of business due to unpaid ER bills.  I mean, one denied Medicare claim for a moderately long stay is worse than a large number of ER visits that go unpaid.

No, the healthcare providers will.  Or Medicaid will.  Which is what so many of them would have anyway if forced to be insured.

We always hear about this meme about all these uninsured patients overwhelming hospitals and doctors and driving them out of business.  But those that pitch this idea never support it or bring the numbers.  Going uninsured doesn't guarantee you will end up with a catastrophic medical event.  In fact, it is just as rare for the uninsured as it is for the insured.  That is to say, it is very rare.  If it weren't, insurance would be wildly more expensive than it is.

So let's not continue this narrative without something backing it up.

What makes this especially odd, is these folks that claim concern over taxpayers footing the bill for someone's healthcare, are usually the ones that support direct taxpayer funding of all sorts of healthcare costs (and in some cases, quite literally, all of the costs).

I mean, if anyone brings the numbers on these uninsured folks that end up costing the taxpayers for their healthcare, would the dollars reach the level of cost of the ACA?  That is, if there was simply a taxpayer fund to cover these costs (and all other health cost payment programs were eliminated), would it really cost remotely close to the costs of Medicare, Medicaid, the various Obamacare programs, etc.?  I don't think so.

Do you really think writing off a loss means something worked out?

Also, losses from insured patients whose charges aren't paid are written off, too.

Please don't lump Medicare in with entitlements like Medicaid.  Most people on Medicare have paid into it every paycheck that they earned.   It's like their Social Security.  The govt grabbed it before the earner ever saw the money.  The money got dumped into the General Fund without being designated as Medicare (or Social Security for that matter).

Some here and in the mainstream media still believe that buying insurance because you have a gun to your head is a metric for success.

These same people must believe all love paying taxes and the Jews loved gas chambers.

That doesn't change the idea that it is a costly government program.  Which was the point i was making.

reckon I don't understand the fantasies of your so called free market

we had an "open market" before the aca
not sure why anyone who is more than slightly familiar with it would wish it on their fellow Americans

toss in the eugenics legislation in house bill 1313 and we officially become a 3rd world hell hole for many.

and myrtle, it cuts our medicare - they will be coming after our ss next

- whats an "open market?

- youre not saying that insurance isnt regulated by the government?

- and those that don't want or need insurance (rich people) are counted as uninsured as if it's a bad thing - or equate insurance with getting healthcare
