That's an interesting anecdote. I don't know if I'll find it boring. I'm considering going to school for luthiery. I believe I'd be good at it.

I say go for it!  Throw yourself into the luthier class and get a gig in music store or something.  Will keep you occupied, but in the field you love.  Maybe hop in a band or start your own.   Cool

Best of luck to you, whatever you decide.

It depends what gives you daily satisfaction. If not work, then yes, I'd say pursue a passion. It may be for pay, or volunteer work, or maybe digging deep into a hobby you've had for years.

Life is short. Do something that makes you and others happy

You could always get a part time job selling insurance.

Given the current climate.. is now a good time to retire.  I'm comfortable. Secure. I've put in years and still feel like I something to offer but retiring now would free up some time that I could put towards other endeavors..

How'bout you.?.. Considering retiring?

Nope.  Seen people just waste away.

I learned a new word - luthier.

One should retire TO something more than retire FROM something.  I know a few people who retired FROM something TO basically nothing and were not happy.  A few even died not long after.  The successful retirees, a group in which I count myself, retired TO something.  In my case, it was continued paying work but part time and of a slightly different nature than my full time occupation.

Retiring to become a luthier sounds like a good thing.  Might even be able to produce a little income with it, even if producing income is not that important.

Excellent advice Elmer.

If you yahoogle "Swan in rushes Loughborough Andy guitar" you will find, eventually,  a guy who left the best pub in England to go build guitars.

It really is, was, and remains a sensational boozer, but the consensus was that he did the right thing even though we were saddened by his departure.

I bet Andy would spend time online with you talkin' lutheriolist.... Luthetisms... Errr....

He is a very good lad.
