Everone of the sailors involved in this show of strength now knows the gravity of the situaion with two more carrier fleets in route.  Their sense of urgency just amped up ten fold.

We have 25-30,000 troops in S. Korea and most of them are within range of N. Korean artillery, as is Seoul, which is thirty miles from the DMZ.

Again, the very best outcome is that his military takes the Little Fat Madman out and China backs the coup de' tat.

If push comes to shove. This may be a bloody campaign, albeit a very short one and a very, very necessary one.

AN IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY OF FORCE

"The United States is deploying an additional two aircraft carriers to the Korean Sea — for a total of three. This is an incredible display of force coming from the United States — three aircraft carriers and the associated support vessels represents tens of billions of dollars of our Naval power. If North Korea is planning something, they’re probably thinking twice!"

It is also being reported that both China and Russia have their ships trailing ours....

It's the 'Sea of Japan', not the 'Korean Sea', you Communist.

Here's an interesting blog with some eye opening statistics about what or armed forces are facing and why it's about time that (we) someone does something aobut this guy before it's too late. https://www.cameronkinvig.com/single-post/2017/04/18/Trump-Uses-Business-Acumen-...

By all means, let's assume we'll have the best possible outcome!

Meanwhile, there are a great many bad possible outcomes:

- Our close ally South Korea gets mauled, with heavy loss of life
- Japan and/or China get caught in the crossfire
- China decides that it doesn't want a unified Korea under US protection, and exercises its territorial prerogatives (as it did in the Korean War)
- We end up spending $2T on a war we started, with no clear end-game and not nearly enough troops on the ground (just as in Iraq)
- Our intervention ends up empowering other regional players (China) instead of us, just as in Iraq
- Our sharply divided electorate revolts as the president who lost the popular vote and who never served in the military starts stocking up on body bags

We COULD try a more sane route:

- establish a regional accord with all local players (SK, Japan, China)
- set up a "grand bargain" -- sign the long-overdue peace treaty, establish full diplomatic relations and recognition, make security guarantees all around, and gain firm and verifiable arms reduction

Nominated for 2016...
- Liberal of the Year
- Conservative of the Year
- Centrist of the Year

We have tried since Bush 1, if not further back.  We have used every diplomatic effort to thwart their nuclear ambitions.  They now have nukes and are on the verge of an ICBM, we have simply run out of time and I suspect, based on what I am reading that this has turned into a grave scenario for our military commanders.  No one wants this but we sure as hell do not want them to have nuke ICBMs.

your link is interesting.

It praises Mr Trump for using economic positives, deliverable to China, to push China in to helping solve the Korea issue.

Well done Mr Trump.

Another way to look at that would be that China is using the Korea issue to gain economic advantage in dealings with the US.

Well done Mr. Xi.

If in the end it manages to remove nukes from NK without a shot being fired, I will not care who benefited from who.
