No, not at all.

It's the opening gambit, before you really put the screws on.

Sounds like Gran should have been cut off. Rule of thumb. When you start spilling you're done drinking.

Especially when you start spilling someone else's drinks.

My wife takes the keys and Politics and Religion and locks them in a box.  You get your key back when she know it safe for you to drive.  Politics and Religion stays lock up in the box.   She learned that from my grandmother.  Also when my grandmother tip over your glass you were done drinking for the night.

If grandma was tipping over wine glasses, perhaps she should have been done for the night!   Grin  Just kidding.  The devil made me do it (or perhaps the wine I had last night).

I generally just avoid talking politics with them, or if they want to talk, just listen politely and don't respond. Then try to move to another subject like sports, etc. I do my best to avoid family drama at all costs; don't need that crap in my life.

I can tell you in my family, particularly my extended family, the politics range all over the spectrum.  But here's one example.  I used to be good friends with my brother's ex-wife.  I lost contact with her, but recently started calling her again, about the time the presidential election was in full swing.  Somehow we got on the topic of politics.  She started ranting against Trump, and I just listened to it.  Ladies pick up on things, and she eventually said "you're not saying anything."  There were several seconds of silence, and then she said "O my god - you're a Trump supporter!"  - at which point I gave out my best demonic laugh (MWAHHH HA HA HA HA HA!!!).   Then she feebly tries to recover, saying things like well, different people have different opinions.

When the economy improves, the rioting and hateful rhetoric of the left dies off, our standing in the world is reestablished and Americans are happy and once again proud to be Americans, try not to gloat and say "I told you so".

When the economy improves,

-------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------

In January of 2009—the month Obama was inaugurated—the American economy lost 791,000 jobs. Now—eight years later—the U.S. has experienced 75 consecutive months of job growth.

“When President Obama took office we were losing 800,000 jobs a month. The job loss associated with the Great Recession was enormous, but a record long recovery has put people back to work including the long-term unemployed and those who left the labor force,” said Betsey Stevenson, a labor economist at the University of Michigan and former member of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisors, in an email. “Unemployment is low, wages are rising, and prime-age labor-force participation is recovering.”

We don't. Politics and religion are very divisive issues so they aren't discussed.

Mine too. They're mostly democrats but they don't preach it. Mostly Christians but don't preach it or go to church.

My father goes fly fishing most of the time. So he doesn't really give a shit.
After being a Marine in Vietnam politics is stupid and fishing is the most important.
