Leave California alone.  Without California and New York, the US's tax base would fall 50%.  Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

- if they did secede - how many of California's businesses, jobs, would move to the USA?

The states that receive the most money from the federal government each year are, generally, the most populous ones. In 2010, eight of the 10 states with the highest population received the most. California, the most populous state in the country, receives the largest share — more than a third of a trillion dollars.

You're entirely incorrect.  California doesn't even make the top ten list of states that gobble up the most Federal tax revenue.

Here are the 10 states, almost all red, that take full advantage of the federal government and would be much worse off without the “coastal liberal elites” you love to complain about.

Kentucky

Mississippi

New Mexico

Alabama

West Virginia

South Carolina

Montana

Tennessee

Maine

Indiana

I wonder what the drop in welfare payments percentage would be for the rest of us.  Over 50%?
