Max Holloway gave Jose Aldo a beatdown! Smiley
Damn you woman! I hadn't watched the event yet!!  Angry
Max is so high output, especially as the rounds pass, kinda Diaz like. I'd enjoy seeing he and McGregor dance again. Cheesy

I guess it's just hard to look at Butterbean and call him an athlete. It's also hard to look at two people hugging and humping on the mat and call that sports. Then again I've never been into wrestling. (And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with two consenting adults of the same sex humping in public, with a consenting paying audience getting into it.)  Are there any actual rules, moves that are considered fouls, like hitting below the belt in boxing?

It's definitely not for everyone.

As to being a sport or its competitors athletes, the Olympic games are based on combat sport. To me, MMA is the modern version of man's oldest sport, war. Unlike the combat sport from thousands of years ago, it doesn't end in death or dismemberment and is entirely voluntary. As to the athletes, the vast majority are studs who could probably master several other sports, boxing, wrestling, judo, gymnastics, track, etc...and then there's Butterbean.  Grin

As to the rules; modern, sanctioned MMA is basically no biting, no fish hooking (fingers in eyes, nose, mouth), no strikes to groan or spine, and no small joint (fingers and toes) manipulation. Oh, and no grabbing the cage/ropes.

Otherwise, have at it!

Wow, watching a sport where two people try to beat the crap out of each other.   The only things lacking are swords, spears, nets and Nero deciding who lives and dies.

Professional wrestling is a crap fest, but at least the wrestlers aren't really trying to hurt their opponent.

I guess they'll both potentially barbaric since both often lead to loss of many brain cells, internal organ damage and sometimes death.
I loved boxing in the past up till around the end of the Tyson era, when I just lost touch with the latest boxers.
