Two for ya
1) What does lime do for a lawn?
2) I had these horrible Sumac trees, Staghorn I think, in my backyard. Had them removed but now they're popping up like weeds all over. I'm assuming the long roots that didn't get removed are budding. What to do?

It raises the Ph . I have the the opposite problem for my Ph is too high. I need sulfur to lower it.

Yes, you assumed right.

Just keep spraying with an Herbicide(kills weeds and not lawns) should do the trick

Any questions about lawn care?

I have years of experience with lawns

How do I grow grass in sandy soil?

What is the best time of year to plant grass seeds (I live in virginia)?

Are you starting a new lawn?  Add soil conditioner/compost to add organic matter.

Spring and fall are the best time.  Do you get much of a winter there?

When your feet have dissolved up to your knees that's when you know that the Ph of your lawn is close to zero...

Thanks. Next question - why do I care if the Ph gets raised? What does THAT do?

Correct ph(that the plant/grass prefers) has to do with the plants ability to absorb nutrients

And when you eat your salad, a little acidity is good but too much of it will burn a hole in your stomach.

Ok, so now I see my mission as applying the exact amount so that my grass stays green but never needs mowing. What chemicals for that! Smiley
