Obama and the democrats did do obamacare, but that was largely self-funded through an array of new taxes.  That's not what blew up the debt.

Obama and the republicans did do the "budget sequester", which resulted in some curtailment of military spending (among other things).  That's not what blew up the debt.

Obama and congress did do the "stimulus round 2" stuff (TARP was under Bush), but more than half that stimulus came in the form of that most sacred of republican priorities -- Tax Cuts.  If you are saying that Tax Cuts are irresponsible in the face of huge deficits, then you are saying Trump is dead wrong, along with the republican congress.

So what DID blow up the debt?  The Bush recession, the twin Bush Tax Cuts, and the couple trillion we spent Off the Books on prosecuting a completely optional war in Iraq might have something to do with it.

(snip)

" Based on quarterly data released by the US Treasury, the debt at the end of 2008 — just before Obama took office — stood at roughly $10,699,805,000,000.

As of the third quarter of 2016, the most recent data available, the debt as Obama is set to leave office stood at $19,573,445,000,000."

Many Conservatives were pretty sick of GW Bush by the end of his 2nd term...

" Some of this debt is attributable to bills passed by Obama's predecessor, George W. Bush, since the federal government's fiscal year budget operate differently from the calendar year. Also, both Bush and Obama rolled out large investment bills to help the US recover from the depths of the financial crisis."

Obama just took what Bush did and doubled down on stupid..The bill was coming due for whoever was elected in 2016!  (same as the future of Obamacare, which will require continued massive spending and still not address all of it's failings)

By the way, there was an alternative plan to TARP which Bush dismissed   This free market solution would have made us stronger in eight years, not on the edge of another crisis as we are now..just kicking the can down the road, picking winners and losers and throwing borrowed money at the problem.

Many of the Conservatives who voted for President Trump share the same perspective of the Republicans that you have expressed.  If they don't get off their dead asses and do their damn job now, they may find they have more to worry about than just the media and the Democrats!  (Most of them never read JFK's "Profiles in Courage")

That's a good book. It should be required reading.
