Another one going around the world.

Your police are becoming the butt of jokes.

Is this one big news there?

I expect the usual suspects will be along telling us how cops are naturally jumpy when confronted by unarmed, pyjama-clad blonde yoga teachers.

Scary stuff.

Well, being Minneapolis, I would say you can blame the dems Grin

Why would this Australian Woman ever even leave the safety of her socialized medicine country?

A world wide look at US policing through the views of the Guardian and some Australians. Roll Eyes

The US police system has major problems. The Guardian isn't quite the world and Australia though big and full of spiders large enough to charter jets isn't exactly an expert on anything American.

The first thing I wondered when reading the article was, "Why did she leave her home after hearing the noise and calling the police?"  Why didn't she let them handle it completely?  I have no idea if the police shot too quickly, but that will be discovered after the investigation is complete.  Go away from any disturbance, not toward it, if the police are on their way.  Remember, if you call the police you are saying that you need help.  Wait for it.

I don't know what's more revolting. If it's the senseless murder of this woman or the fact that the murderers are on paid leave, instead of being in jail pending a trial.

This is the first I've heard of this one. It is the Guardian, are you sure it really happened?

Genuine lol at highlight bit.

It's all over the Web.

I find these tragic stories interesting because the essence of what we (LNF and other political argument sites) discuss is illuminated by them

Basically it's the crunch between personal freedom and The State, between cultural divisions over things like race, authority,  weapons, drugs, the rule of law.

On a lower level but still important,  it shows up things like public funding (standards and numbers of cops) and accountability.

These are all things any democracy should be looking hard at all the time.

I dunno,  I called the cops a while ago and went out to meet them, to give full details of what the situation was.

Of course,  our cops tend not to shoot people and the situation wasn't directly threatening to me as a fairly large chap.

Maybe she was just telling them to stand down, the noise was a cat.

We probably won't get to know because only the two coppers are alive to tell us.

The Guardian puts a spin on,  but doesn't make stuff up.

Well, it does, if you include its explanations of why it's OK to be a London lefty with a property portfolio who lives on rent from poor people.

The Brothers Grimm couldn't do better.
