Thanks Limey. Btw, my youngest is having the time of his life so far in Mildenhall. He has really taken advantage of the opportunity to travel around England and has developed a great fondness for the folks there.  He is already talking about trying to extend.

I was in Ipswich last week,  nice part of England,  if maybe a bit flat.

Sutton Hoo is an interesting experience.

Is it still f15 at Mildenhall?

Unfortunately that is not the case.  It also does not need to be the case.  We have to remember that the people of NK are by and large completely innocent of the stupidity of their rulers.  This is not like Nazi Germany were the people were vastly complicit with the Nazis.

Also, we have to take into account a decades long ally to the South and our "frenemies" to the North in China.

That being said the NK military is no match for what could come their way.  Numbers are their only ally internally and I doubt they would be able to control their people once the crap hit the fan to augment those numbers.  A deal must be brokered with the Chinese though.  They are the wild card.  I would hope they understand that they would have nothing to gain from continuing support of the NK's.  If they at worst stay out of the theater, NK has no chance and would barely be able to get a plane in the air.

The end game should be unification with the south.  It would be a world wide win/win scenario.  The North has vast amounts of mineral and agricultural resources that can be exploited with the new technology the south could bring.

However wars can only be won with boots on the ground denying the use thereof to the enemy.

Our nuclear component is and has always been defensive in nature, regardless of periodic saber rattling during the cold war.  Ditto Russia and China.

You are far more informed than I am, Goose, and I appreciate your analysis. Personally, I want to see us be more aggressive, but your way of thinking makes sense.

I have two son's serving at this moment.  One in the Air Force and one in the Army.  My son in the Army is a field artillery tactical data system specialist, or something like that.  Longest damn MOS name I have ever seen...back on point.

No I do not want either of my son's to die for their country.  However they took an oath and I and everyone else should expect them to stand by it.

For those of you who served and ever saw combat you should know a couple of things.  The Marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen of this country, once deployed, do not fight and die for the country.  At that point they fight and die for each other, end of story.  So at the end of the day, it matters not to the ones at the point of the spear where they are sent or why.

Now that we are all safe an cozy at Camp Lazy Boy, Fort Hammock, Ocean View Naval Station and BBQ Air Force Base, we have the luxury of debating the how, why and when.  It's your right to do so.

Now directly to answer your question.  I would but as are most of you, I am not considered young enough.  I would not go to implement a policy that was given down by the government though.  I would go to stand shoulder to shoulder with my Corps and hope that I could play a part in making it possible for us to all see our families again.

These posts are really not constructive because I would bet that all of the vets here, regardless of current political leanings would feel the pull of brotherhood and gladly serve again if able, allowed and called upon, not for cause or policy, but the brotherhood.   I would hazard the assumption that all of us are also deeply honored by the service of current children and close family members that a serving in this moment.  I would also hazard the assumption that the man of us who have close family serving currently lose as many sleepless nights as I do.

No fighters are at Lakenheath next door.  Milldenhal is home to the 100th Refueling wing, a spec op I sorry group and C130s from what I understand.

Who wants to FIGHT and maybe DIE to keep America safe?  Who?  Anybody want to serve up their son or daughter maybe?  C'mon now, step up.  Freedom isn't free!  I did my bit for 30 years in the military.  Where's your stomach for a fight?  President Trump is leading us to the battlefield.  Aren't you willing to fight for him and us?

Greg

I'm with you Greg

But add that America is a socialist country to that list for reasons not to fight and die for it Wink

Well said.  I, personally, would love to see the draft reinstated, and I believe that females should be included.   It won't happen, but from what I understand, only 1% of our those eligible serve in the military.  I think that's shameful.

Our citizenry would rather fall on their swords while protesting some fanciful 'offensive' happening and beating each other up and breaking windows and destroying and stealing property while doing so, all the while touting how great they are to do it.

God bless the men and women who serve in our military.
