Carbon dating doesn't work with stone, so even if the initial slab is authentic, there is no way to attest that a piece of carving is original or has been added later to fulfil some true believer's wishes. People do that all the time, the shroud of Turin was thought to be authentic by the same kind of unscrupulous "experts" until carbon dating proved that it was a fourteen's century fake. Imagine that! It was only six hundred years old but a bunch of "experts" in the pay of the Christians swore that it bore all the marks of something two thousand of years old. A piece of rock on the other hand is almost impossible to date. Imagine the countless people during centuries who had the opportunity to add the name of Pontius Pilate on it.

Funny also that for nearly two thousand years there were NO Roman DOCUMENT Whatsoever that attested of Pontius Pilate existence until an unverifiable piece of rock comes up providentially at a time when religious fanatics were all the rage.

The shroud was "authentic" too ... until quantum physics proved otherwise.

What's funny is that Romans were very accepting of other people's religions. There is historical proof that many non Roman religions were practiced in Rome or in roman provinces without any objection by the roman government. If Jesus was arrested and executed it's likely because the romans thought that he was inciting rebellion among the people and they arrested him on that charge (all of this assumes both that Jesus as depicted in the NT existed and that he was indeed executed by the romans which is far for being proved ). They probably didn't give a rat's ass about his religion. Also it was impossible that Jesus was nailed to the cross through the palms of his hands as shown in many works of art. It's been proven recently that the flesh in a human hand is not resilient enough to prevent a nail from slipping through it and Jesus would have fallen off the cross. Yet, Christians have repeated that lie for nearly two thousand years. Christians have no compunction about lying as long as it "helps the cause".

Not reading any archeologist who are promoting what you are claiming about the stone.  They seem to think it is authentic.   What you typically do is dismiss facts that when it suits your interests.

"Without morals a republic cannot subsist any length of time; they therefore who are decrying the Christian religion, whose morality is so sublime and pure (and) which insures to the good eternal happiness, are undermining the solid foundation of morals, the best security for the duration of free governments."
