There would be no Antifa without the Fa.

It's purely a reaction.

The Fa is the root problem causing violence.

I'd say until recently (Charlottesville) it was an over reaction.

Regardless violent communists are not much better than fascists in my book.

Interesting point. I can see the argument of tying in partisan politics with the violence we see on the streets today.

But how will the Dems and Reps work together? The two sides are at constant war over control and power.

There is bluster and ballyhoo between the two parties, but these are only around the wedge issues.  On most actual policy, the two parties are in broad agreement.  That's why nothing much changes from one presidency or congressional session to the next.

Ah, but the set "Anti-fascist" may include the sub-set "violent communist" without negating my point.

Are you guys finally coming around to my contention that a civil war is coming?

No civil war is coming.  Anyone that lived through the 60's (like myself)  can tell you how bad things got and we made it through as a nation.

Yes. but during the sixties there were real issues.  This is astro-turf with hyped  outrage about exaggerated problems designed to create crisis after crisis, that the radicals can exploit to their advantage with he aim of implementing a CHANGE to Marxism.

One must remember that the lady who believes a civil war is coming has admitted she knows little or nothing about American history.  Particularly earlier presidents, including George Washington for crying out loud.  I just finished reading Cry Havoc! The Crooked Road to Civil War, and have read other books about that war and the rest of American history.  I can assure anybody who really thinks times have never been this bad to rest easy.  They certainly have been this bad before, frequently, and often much worse.  Ain't no civil war coming.  Yes, we have a clown in the White House but even his cabinet officers are beginning to ignore him.  Much to their credit, I might add.

It's an interesting historical fact and has very little bearing on the facts of life of today's America...

Reading back through this thread, I feel this needs to be addressed. Considering that black populations are concentrated in the South (see here), how can it have little bearing on the facts of life today?

Previously, I've heard on this board that ONLY 1.5% of the US population owned slaves.  Of course that 1.5% figure includes all men, women and children.  How many slave owners were there then?  Let's do some more math.  Since the total population of the United States in 1860 was just over 31 million and nearly 4 million of those were slaves, that brings the total population NOT slaves to around 27 million men, women and children NOT slaves.  1.5% of the NOT slave population is about 407,513 slave owners in the United States.  OK, if ONLY 407,513 US citizens in 1860 owned 3.9 million slaves, that works out to about 9.6 slaves per slave owner.  Again, it doesn't matter if ONLY 1.5% of the population DID own slaves, 100% of the population COULD LEGALLY own slaves.

Let's do some more number's crunching.  Let's swing over to the ACTUAL 1860 Census and look at some REAL numbers.  First off, the 27 million figure for White people in 1860 includes everyone in all households.  That's people from the ages of zero to over 90 years old.  Since the census is broken down by age groupings let's take a look at the numbers.  Understand that persons UNDER the age of 20 are LESS likely to have owned slaves so we'll just use the total population of 20 years old and over people who COULD have owned slaves.  Ready?  When the figures for ALL people residing in the United States that were White and over the age of 20, you get a population of 13,307,565 approximately.  Now, if ONLY 1.5% (or ONLY 1.6%) of the TOTAL population in the United States owned slaves.   Well that number worked out to 407,513 of which 3,000 were Black.  OK, so in reality, what would be the ACTUAL percentage of slaves owners in the US in 1860, that is, people that were most likely to own slaves? That figure goes up to ONLY 3.1%

But hey, you can check the math if you like.

http://www2.census.gov/prod2/decennial/documents/1860a-15.pdf

So, in retrospect, we have ONLY 407,513 people imprisoning LEGALLY 3.9 million people.

Greg
