Looks like some already are serving in the military. If DACA is ultimately rescinded, they could be deported...

Quote:
The military looked to ‘dreamers’ to use their vital skills. Now the U.S. might deport them.

...President Trump’s decision to end the Obama-era measure sparked fears among advocates that nearly 800,000 immigrants who have lived illegally in the United States since they were children would be subject to removal once their government-issued work permits expire under DACA.

It would be a loss for the Army to bar these recruits, especially as the service struggles to meet recruiting goals. And experts say the relatively small number of foreign recruits have skills with outsize importance to the military’s mission.

The move could affect not only the children of immigrants who crossed the southern border illegally, but those who overstayed visas at a young age, with no other option but to remain here...

If your dad wants his given name back, I bet he could go through the process of changing it back.  Does he have his original birth certificate?

I don't think he really cared, even as a young man.  He didn't mind being "Americanized."  Just thought it was interesting that the judge didn't even ask my dad, very heavy handed to just change someone's legal name like that, kinda' funny too.   Grin

Actually, we don't have enough, and they aren't called storm troopers.  mr crepe and I would love to see the draft come back, but we know that will never happen.

I'd sure be willing to let the DACA people into the military, if they qualify.  Let's not lower the standards for them, though.  Of course, those who are in their late twenties and their thirties might not want to, but it certainly could be an option.  There are a lot of young'uns out there who could use the discipline found in the military.

Why would you want to see the draft brought back?  Kind of big government, isn't it?  To have people forced to do the will of the government?

NO - follow the rules.  My GF's grandfather came here LEGALLY, got a green card, joined the army and fought in the Korean war, and later got citizenship.

So he fought in a war that 30,000 Americans died for nothing? Huh

Interesting...
