Middle East & Terrorism Reading

Have read some good books recently on our involvement in the Middle East and terrorism generally. All have been recently published and have some very good information.

Places the current conflicts in a larger historical context going back to the Carter administration.

Very interesting sociological look at jihad in France; the historical context, the influences, its evolution over of time. Of all of the books, this is the one I would recommend most.

This is more a series of vignettes on different issues related to the Middle East and terrorism from Al Qaeda to ISIS, but not a comprehensive overview.

I've got a few on my reading list that are focused on Central Asia during the 20th Century, specifically during the Cold War:

Unwanted Visionaries: The Soviet Failure in Asia at the End of the Cold War by Sergey Radchenko

The Great Gamble: The Soviet War in Afghanistan by Gregory Feifer

Hopefully will get around to them soon.

There were a few, particularly from Terror in France. I'll go back through my notes in the books when I get home before I post so that I don't make some egregious error trying to post from memory.
