GOP Senators Believe Roy Moore's Accusers But Not Donald Trump's

Jennifer Bendery,HuffPost•                 November 14, 2017

Moore’s scandal has put his party in an incredibly uncomfortable predicament: the more Republicans say the allegations by five women against Moore are proof that he doesn’t belong in the Senate, the more hypocritical they look for ignoring the 16 women who have accused Trump of sexual assault and helping him become president.

The White House position on the president’s accusers is that they are all liars. Trump denied all of the allegations again last month, calling them “fake news” and “made-up stuff.”

So why do Republicans believe Moore’s accusers but not Trump’s? HuffPost spent Tuesday asking GOP senators why the situations are different. Few could offer a convincing argument, instead opting to shrug their shoulders, pivot or abruptly walk away.

Americans have worse perceptions of Ivanka Trump and Trump Hotels than almost any other brand in the US

11/1/2017

Americans have an extremely low perception of Trump family brands.

Both Ivanka Trump's fashion line and Trump Hotels fell to the bottom 10 of more than 1,600 brands analysed in a YouGov consumer perception survey, Axios reports. YouGov surveyed 4,800 people in a representative national sample to arrive at the result.

The Trump SoHo Hotel in New York City Is About to Drop the ‘Trump’ Bit
Fortune                     November 23, 2017

The election of President Trump has had at best mixed results for the business. Basketball star LeBron James refused to stay at the hotel in December last year, the kind of political gesture that has been echoed this year in, for example liberal boycotts of products endorsed by Trump’s daughter Ivanka. And in June 2017, Koi Restaurant–which was located at the bottom of Trump SoHo–shut its doors, explaining to Money at the time that “before Trump won, we were doing great.”

I'm confused. Last week we had threads from Trump's detractors complaining that some of his businesses were profiting from his presidency.

So, he gets criticized if his businesses prosper and if they don't? That's convenient.

Seems a little heads I win tails you lose to me.

It's not new though. Exactly the same happened during Bush's presidency on this very forum. When gas prices went up, it was because Bush was helping his oil buddies make a profit. When they went down, it was because Bush was trying to help them sell more oil.

Foreign governments are finding ways to do favors for Trump’s business
BY ANITA KUMAR
akumar@mcclatchydc.com

January 02, 2018 02:00 AM

WASHINGTON
In Indonesia, a local government plans to build a road to shorten the drive between the main airport on the island of Bali and the new high-end Trump resort and golf course.

In Panama, the country’s federal government intervened to ensure a sewer system around a 70-story Trump skyscraper shaped like a sail in Panama City would be completed.

And in other countries, governments have donated public land, approved permits and eased environmental regulations for Trump-branded developments, creating a slew of potential conflicts as foreign leaders make investments that can be seen as gifts or attempts to gain access to the American president through his sprawling business empire.

The White House dismisses these concerns, as does the Trump Organization’s attorney. But when foreign governments that provide gifts to the Trump Organization, even those that benefit other businesses, it puts President Donald Trump in possible violation of the U.S. Constitution’s emoluments clause that states officials may not accept gifts from foreign governments and that no benefit should be derived by holding office.

Owners of Trump Hotel in Panama Rebel Against Trump Control

Nov. 28, 2017,

By JEFF HORWITZ, Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — Owners of the Trump International Hotel in Panama are working to strip President Donald Trump's name from the 70-story building and fire the hotel management company run by Trump's family. The property once paid at least $32 million to associate with Trump.

The World's Ugliest American

Richard North Patterson,HuffPost•      January 23, 2018

One year into the Trump administration, as our president prepares for his trip to address the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, here is the dynamic abroad: No foreign enemy could have degraded America’s global standing so completely in so short a time.

In word and deed, Donald Trump personifies the American ignoramus abroad. He insults foreign leaders in tweets, then melts in their presence. He switches positions based on personal flattery. He parades his ignorance of geopolitics. His erratic behavior and bellicose boasts provoke alarm in a nuclear age.

Trump's Deputy Drug Czar Is A 24-Year-Old With A Flimsy Work History
HuffPost
Dominique Mosbergen,HuffPost•          January 22, 2018

A 24-year-old appointed to a top position in the White House drug policy office has come under scrutiny in recent days for his scanty résumé and lack of qualifications.

A new Washington Post report reveals that one of Taylor Weyeneth’s few previous jobs ended ignominiously. Weyeneth was “let go” from a New York law firm in 2015 because he didn’t show up to work, the paper reports.

Weyeneth was appointed last year as deputy chief of staff of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, or ONDCP, which coordinates federal drug-control efforts, and questions have recently been raised about his fitness for the role.

Prior to his work for the Trump administration, the only job he’d held since graduating from college in 2016 was working on President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, the Post reported earlier this month. As a high schooler, Weyeneth worked for a family firm that processed health products; and as an undergraduate, he had a job as a legal assistant at the New York law firm O’Dwyer & Bernstien.
