Faith vs. Reason

(Proverbs 3:5 - Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding).Non-Christians love to demand proof of God's existence because they have no faith. At Bible class this morning our worksheet contained this - "Faith humbles itself before God and clings to his Word as the source of wisdom and truth. Reason, on the other hand, in its corruption and pride, always makes the mistake of exalting its very limited experience and equating it with omniscience....The experience of man is always limited to isolated moments in the vast expanse of time and space. Even at their highest reaches the senses can acquire knowledge that is merely fragmentary. Self-evident as this is, men in practice tend to forget it." -Siegbert Becker.    I thought this was good, What do you think?

Not seen you about for a while Mr. P

Under Capitalism, Man exploits Man.

Under Communism, it's the exact opposite.

In some ways faith vs. reason is a false dichotomy.

It should really be "faith informs reason."

You could think of faith as "information" that informs the reasoning faculties.

Now, if you do not allow for information to come to a person through non-rational channels the above assertion of course does not make sense.

Which is just the problem with rationalists: they simply exclude everything which doesn't fit their system, thus why arguing with them always goes in circles.

Wendell Berry has talked about the same thing with farming.  The attempt to "rationalize" farming with industrial processes has led to the destruction of both agricultural communities as well as land and a decrease in the quality of many agricultural products.

Clearly, this shows that "rationalization" of agricultural has left something, or really a lot, out of the equation.  There is much that the rational methods cannot account for so they simply exclude them.

The same thing is true with faith/spirituality/religion, etc.  The most important aspect of our individual and communal lives has been excluded by rationalists because it cannot be completely explained on their terms.  The terrible results of this rationalist exclusion of non-rationalist aspects of reality are all around us.
