Doug Jones leads Roy Moore by 4 points in Alabama: Poll

A new poll out Sunday has Republican Roy Moore losing to Democrat Doug Jones in Alabama’s upcoming special Senate election.

The poll, conducted by JMC Analytics and Polling, has Jones at 46 percent compared to Moore’s 42 percent among likely voters. More than half of those surveyed were 65 or older and described themselves as an evangelical Christian.

Moore was heavily favored to win the election, but the race has tightened in the last month. Molestation allegations against Moore dropped on Thursday, sending Republicans into a tailspin over what to do about their candidate. Moore has said he plans to stay in the race.

Among voters who remain undecided, Jones again beats Moore with 48 percent saying they are leaning toward the Democrat compared to 44 percent leaning toward Moore. The poll was conducted on Nov. 9 — the day the allegations against Moore became public — and on Nov. 11.

State officials said it’s too late to take Moore’s name off the ballot.

Republicans in Congress are mulling what options they have to block Moore from taking the Senate seat. There’s talk of delaying the special election, and encouraging Sen. Luther Strange R-Ala., who lost to Moore in the Republican primary to mount a write-in bid, according to the New York Times.

There’s also buzz among Republicans about expelling Moore once elected.

The average still shows Moore +2 (Source), but that's pretty tight in a state where a Democrat hasn't won a Senate race since 1992 (and that one - Shelby - switched parties in 1994). Jones will have to win more than the Black Belt (traditional D stronghold) to knock off Moore.

And actually did win the popular vote (which is how Alabama's US Senator will be chosen).

Four more reasons in favor of Mitch McConnell's proposal.  Sen. Sessions would be a shoe in and our nation could have an  Attorney General who didn't 'feel' so compromised that he couldn't handle some of the most pressing issues being brought to the DOJ !

I will be surprised if Moore loses.  R is good, D is bad for a majority of voters in that state.  Candidates don't matter.  Only party designations do.

But this one is a little different because it appears that a large part of the R's in the Senate do not support the R candidate from Alabama.  They don't get to vote, of course, but it has to weigh on the minds of those voters who think before they vote (probably a minority, but some do).

Too early to print "Jones edges out Moore" headlines, though.  Remember "Dewey defeats Truman."

Assuming one can be found who has a taste for eating shit at the same time.

I would expect something on the order of a "pre - nup" between Trump and his appointee if he (Trump) wants a qualified one.  If all he wants is a hack to do his bidding (which is, actually, all he wants but he doesn't want it to look like that's what happened) then he can probably find someone who will take it on the same terms Sessions did.  Sessions just didn't know those were the terms until later.  Anybody who takes it now has to know those are the terms absent a "pre-nup."  Better be signed and notarized, too.

That's certainly born out by straight ticket voting stats (Source).

I have heard more than one person in my state, and some of them are people I actually think are of above average intelligence, say they vote R.  Period.  That is the only thing that matters when they look at a ballot.  And they're proud of it.
