The Battle At The Milvian Bridge

This is the story of one of the greatest Roman military Battles as well as Christian history.

The year is 306 and Roman civil strife and division began with the Roman Armies of Britain proclaiming 'Constantine ' emperor of Rome. But Maxentius was emperor of western Rome

This division of power would come to a head in the year 312 with Constantine's Army marching into Italy. The two Armies met at the Milvian Bridge at the Tiber river about 10 miles from Rome. Constantine had an Army of 40,000 soldiers while Maxentius had 3 times as much and even had the praetorian guard

The evening Before the Battle, Constantine felt for the need of an advantage since his army was badly outnumbered.  Like most Roman soldiers, Constantine's Religion  was Mithraism. But it is said that Constantine saw a cross in the sky that evening and thought it was a sign.

So, on the day of Oct 28, in the year 312 the Armies squared off. It was a ferocious battle but in the end, Constantine's Army prevailed and even with Maxentius himself drowning in the Tiber river.

This Battle is considered one of the most decisive battles in all of history for it would give Christian liberty with Constantines conversion and with him issuing the 'Edict of Milan' (313) which ended the Christian persecutions which helped allow it to flurish

All throughout our American history, world history, "ordinary people can do extraordinary things"
