Most episodes where the doctor plays a prominent part are quite good... There are a couple of exceptions though.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about the one where he contemplates leaving the ship to become an opera star, for example. It's funny, but it's out of character. Compare that to TTDS where, in his daydreams, he says that all he wants to do is be the best that he can be to help the ones he loves. Doesn't really match up with the guy who's ready to jump ship a few episodes later.

I also loved the romantic arc with him and 7 and then wanted to throw something through the television when they paired her up with Chakotay instead.

Janeway and her coffee had more romantic chemistry than those two.

i really liked that one.. I think it had to do with the fact that he sometimes felt underappreciated, and like a 2nd class citizen on Voyager.  This was an opportunity to have his dreams and big ego stroked.  His character development throughout the series was one of it's highlights.

Robert Picardo who plays the part is a very talented actor. I am surprised that we haven't seen him in more things, especially in the movies.

Yep. He was the best actor on the show. He could do drama and comedy equally well.

In full disclosure, I like it too. It is a Holodoc episode after all. I just think it would have been better placed earlier in the series. It isn't quite believable that he'd let the ship go off without its Chief Medical Officer at that point. The idea that Paris could fill in for him just wasn't credible.

However, him calling Janeway by her first name and her reaction to it? That was priceless. As is the crowd's reaction to Kim's playing. "We waaaahnt the Daahhctooor!"

No doubt. He's fantastic.

He has a very small cameo in Star Trek: First Contact. I think the problem with the other movies from that time period is that they were still in the Delta Quadrant for all but the last one. Plus Holodoc shouldn't age. CGI could get around that now, but not nearly as well ten years ago.

He's been doing voice work lately, I think. Did you ever see him in The Wonder Years? That's where I remember seeing him first when I was a kid.
