Review: "Justice League"

I saw this last week, and I really enjoyed it. Much superior to "Batman v Superman," which I realize isn't saying much. I loved the action sequences and special effects, and the storyline was decent. The two hours went by really quickly. The dynamics between the team members were fun, too.

I have just a few quibbles. First and foremost, I thought Flash was just overly goofy. I also thought the resurrection of Superman could have been done better. (It didn't seem as impactful and dramatic as it could have been.) And finally, while I like Cyborg in the comic books, he was really misplaced here as a Justice League member. I think we all know why he was included.  Roll Eyes

I think the movie would have been so much better if Green Lantern was a part of it instead of Cyborg. DC should have just given their fans what they want. The "Big 6": Superman, Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Green Lantern.

Overall, though, I give the film ***1/2 out of four stars. It wasn't as awesome as the first Avengers movie, but to be fair the Avengers had the advantage of building up to the movie by first putting out solo films of Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Hulk.

The ultimate like/dislike criteria for me is: Would I purchase the movie on DVD or digital download? With "Justice League," the answer is definitely YES.

Just caught it on an airplane recently.

I'm so easily entertained, and I went in with low expectations given what I had heard.

I enjoyed it fine. I really don't like Affleck as Batman. He's actually ok as Bruce Wayne. I buy him being a moody billionaire, but I don't buy him being Batman. He just doesn't make it work.

At the end, after the defeat of the baddy (Spoiler! Good guys win!), all of heroes almost take turns saying stuff, and Cyborg says "Boo-yah".

It's so cringe-worthy. It's so absolutely terrible that I laughed out loud on the plane. DC just seems to be running 10 years behind with their scripts and pop-culture understanding and whatnot, because there were other cringe-worthy moments like that. And I'm an un-cool dad now. Even I know that having the black guy say "boo-yah" all serious and in celebration of a positive event is at least 10 years old. Terrible.

And not just 10 years old in the language. Marvel has done what Justice League did in terms of story at least 3 times already. They're all running together now.

Still. Whatever. Want to see explosions and have superheroes from your childhood fight villains with some pretty great CGI? I always seem to. It's always fun for me.

I agree with all of your sentiments. I don't know why there's such a huge difference in quality between the Marvel and DC films. Both companies have great characters. And DC's TV side is way better than Marvel's, both in live action and animation.

But those Batman movies from 10 years ago were incredible!

And I haven't seen the DC television shows yet. I can only speak to a couple of the Marvel shows: Legion (amazing), Daredevil (great first season, meh second season), and Punisher (really enjoyable)... Which DC shows should I catch?

Ummm, I haven’t actually seen any of DC’s live-action TV shows. But I know they’re a success because they get good reviews and are always renewed.

I can vouch for their animated stuff, though. “Batman: The Animated Series” is practically legendary. And I have the complete series of  “Justice League” and “Justice League Unlimited” on DVD.

Currently, “DC SuperHero Girls” is a lot of fun:

Also, I love Justice League Action”:

It was terrible.  Among the worst of the DC movies.  It's firmly nestled somewhere between Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad.  /shudder.

Yet I will watch every movie based on these characters that comes out.  I never get tired of them.  I will never trust reviewers and will always decide for myself.  Bad reviews?  Who cares?  It's crappity smacking <insert superhero name here>

I come away from nearly every DC movie going ... "okay that was meh at best."  Yet I still charge to the Redbox and throw money whenever they come out with another DC movie.

Altho I really liked "Green Lantern" and think it's probably the best of the DC movies.  I never understood why people trashed that film.  The bar for DC is sooooo low.

I liked "Suicide Squad." Harley Quinn was great!

I never saw "Green Lantern." DC fanboys really put it down.

I wish they'd make a Batgirl movie with the Cassandra Cain character. She's badass.
